  • Humbucker for low tuning

What is the best humbucker for low tuning, for example C? I am looking for the sound of the "Honor Thy Father" by DT.

    Re: Humbucker for low tuning

i've had good luck with a JB. My old band used to tune to Drop-C and i loved the sound of it. I also dropped it to drop-B and it sounded even better. it kept the bass nice and tight and let the highs sing when you needed them to. hope this helps.

The JB works. But the SH-5 Custom might work even better.

I love the Custom for it, and the L500XL is also a great choice like WFD said!

actually, you might want to even look into the Dimarzio D-sonic. Brad Delson from Linkin Park uses one... and although I'm not at ALL a fan of them, I like his tone. I also hear that it's got good bass response, and high output.

I can vouch for the custom and Dimebucker, both work great. THe Custom just gets fatter and fatter the lower you go

                      Re: Humbucker for low tuning

I suggest a JB for low tuning and big chords. I like the punch in the bottom end. Some pickups don't like those low frequencies and they start to sound artificial.
                      The Custom will work also.

well john petrucci uses a pickup designed after the steve special, so you could check that out as well. but for now, i'd recommend the Custom.

I have one in my SG which is in Drop C and it sounds great!
