  • Stupid wiring question

    Hey there,
is it fine to use only a single hair of copper wire instead of the whole cable type of wire that we use?

The electrical signal travels through a thin wire inside the pickup. The leads are probabaly a larger gauge so they can be handled without breaking.

You can probably use almost any gauge wire as long as its larger than the wire on the spool of the pickup.

An extremely thin wire (like the coil wire) creates resistance. A very short wire like a couple inches won't contribute much to that, but it is very fragile and prone to breakage. Plus there is no insulation on a single strand and it is likely to touch another wire, lug, or ground and create all sorts of havoc.
