  • Hot Stack for neck louder when splitted

    Hello, everyone!

I've installed an STK-S2n on a Tagima strat, with a DPDT switch to split. But trying it out, I had the impression that, splitted, it sounds louder that in common use - coils in series. The "hum-cancelling" (or it's cut by split) is working as expected. The pots are 500 k.

    Does someone know why?

It is cancelling some frequencies when full on, and those frequencies might be something you are sensitive to. On my STK-S4, I don't really hear a difference when split, but it might just be my hearing.

I've just replaced an STK-S4m that I had in neck position for the very same reason - the only difference I felt was the "hum-canceling" when using medium/high gain drives... but could the 500 k pot interfere with the output gain in any way?

on old style stacks like the stk2, you do get a volume boost when you only use the top coil. with the newer stack designs like the stks4, there is a pretty subtle difference but the top end does open a touch when split to my ears
