  • Painting a nickel covered Phat Cat P90 pickup Black

Can I paint an old nickel covered Phat Cat pickup with flat black Rust-oleum paint without killing any frequencies or characteristics of the pickup ?
Unable to buy any black covers at this moment from SD .

I doubt paint will kill any frequencies but I also doubt that anything you paint it with will look good or stay adhered to the cover without rubbing off very quickly.

    I wouldn't do it.

I personally prefer the sound of pickups WITH the cover on...

Shrill highs, i always got in abundance ...

The ones listed are for 50 or 52mm pole spacing.

You're right. You'd probably have to dremel them for them to fit, it's a mm off. Might look better than paint tho?

This isn't a good idea, for the reasons stated. Wait until you can buy black covers or just embrace the difference between what you have and what you want. You might be able to contact a company that plates black chrome, and tell them what you have and what you want- see if they can do it properly. But it will cost a lot.
You can buy a black P-Rail and just use the P90 coil.
