  • Set of P-Rails, 2 Mustang DP3T Slider Switches 8 lug ON-ON-ON

    I'm attempting to wire a set of P-Rails where I have a Mustang DP3T Slider Switch for each pick-up sliding between Rails /Humbucker in Series /P-90 modes.

    What I'd like is One OUTPUT be dedicated to the Rails only mode. A separate OUTPUT for Humbucker and P-90 Mode.

    The information DP3T switches is oddly difficult to find.

    May I ask for some of you more experienced members to help?

    The switches I am using are 8 lug ON-ON-ON DP3T Slider Switches from Switchcraft.

    The slide switch translation is fairly easy. Like this:

      Thank you ArtieToo, I seem to lack the skill to configure the switch in a manner where I can establish a separate Output when in the Rail mode from when the switch is in Humbucker and P-90 mode. It's twisting my melon.

      My desired outcome from the switch is this:

      Rail Mode : OUTPUT A

      Humbucker Mode: OUTPUT B
      P-90 Mode: OUTPUT B

      I've been starring at this chart hoping the answer will come to me.

        When you say "Output A" and "Output B", are referring to what goes to the mono output jack? Or, what goes to the 3-way?

          I plan the output of the rails to go a separate volume and tone pots than that of the humbuckers and p-90.

          The wiring would be from the switches to the pots to the 3 way switch and then on to the mono output jack.

          each rail -> switch -> Volume pot A 250k -> Tone pot A 250k-> 3 way switch -> output jack
          humbucker mode + p90s -> switch -> Volume pot B 500k -> Tone pot B 500k-> 3 way switch -> output jack

            So, with the switch in one position, the "Rails" will go to a vol/tone pot. (Let's call that pots "A".) Then, with the switch in another position you have series humbuckers going to pots "B". And with the switch in another position, the P-90's also go to pots "B" ?

              Exactly
              Position 1 would be Rails only to Vol and Tone Pots A
              Position 2 would be Rails and P-90 in series humbucker mode to Vol and Tone Pots B
              Position 3 would be P-90 to Vol and Tone Pots B

              *edited with correct pot labels*

                Weird. I like it.

                Let me chew on this. I've got a couple of customer guitars to get out today, but I'll see what I can come up with. Slowly.

                  I think I have it.

                  Using the numbering in the diagram above:
                  7: OUTPUT A 8: BLK Wire tied to OUTPUT B
                  5: RED Wire In 6: Ground tied from 4
                  3: WHT Wire In 4: Ground Jumped from 1
                  1: GRN/BARE Wires In 2: RED Jumped from 5
                  In this example:
                  Position 3 yields a connection from RED to OUTPUT A while grounding OUTPUT B (RAIL MODE)
                  Position 2 ties RED and WHT leaving BLK to OUTPUT B (HUMBUCKER IN SERIAL)
                  Position 1 GROUNDS WHT AND RED leaving BLK to OUTPUT B (P-90)

                  Does this look right?
