  • Hello everyone,
I believe I got scammed but it sure seems an elaborate scam if I did. What do you think? I was browsing eBay looking for a good neck pickup to pair with my JB. I have a Pearly Gates Bridge model that I have in there now but was looking at something more traditional. I was getting very frustrated at the used pickups selling for the same or more than new ones. Then I saw a set. It was a JB trembucker and a Jazz for the neck (zebra which I didn’t want but was considering coving them anyway). It seemed like a reasonable price for a used set. So, I ordered it. Next thing I know I get an email that my Humbuckers had a tracking number and they were coming from China! Oops, I guess I didn’t read the page too well. To my eye everything looked OK but they were supposed to be used and the only “used” indicator is that the Jazz had been tapped for a larger screw. Which I know is possible if someone used a direct mount setup rather than ring mount. I started looking a bit closer and noticed the font on the front looked a little off and the last N in Duncan seemed a bit spaced on both. The Trembucker was reading 15.5k which is a bit low but possible. Seems weird to me that so much is correct to have messed up the part I think would be fairly easy to get right if it were a knock-off. Anyway, what do you think?

        • Greetings all. Ty for the addy.
My question is exactly the thread title here.
Got an 81 Standard not expecting to see these. They definitely look installed much later than the 80s. Not sure if someone pulled a fast one or did a huge favor. I've yet to try and crack them open, they have chrome covers. Nothing to I.d them on other then what you see written. Any insight and help is much appreciated!

            • No clue on those. Definitely not Duncans, though.

Some other hand-wound, small builder design, most likely. Maybe "JB" or "JCB" pickups?

Can't find a mention about anything similar online, but if they sound good then they ARE good!

              • Thanks for responding, worked a long 16 hr day. Clueless as to what they are after searching high and low. When I get the chance I'll put the ohmeter to them out of curiosity. You all rock! Or jazz or whatever your likings...

                  • Looks like a Seth Lover neck, made in 2008. Does the DCR match a Seth neck?

Those look like JC Custom Pickups from Michigan, pretty recent.

Compare the signature on the back plate on this one

I was searching high and low. I did see those and assumed it was a random person selling a similar unknown set. I thank you for bringing it to my attention!

Because heres the wild part. The guitar these were in was shipped to me from PA. I live practically 10 mins outside of Midland. What are the odds? So I'll definitely give JC pickups a call and if they're open to the public maybe even take them in and confirm.

                            • Allright so I contacted JCCustoms in Midland MI. And he lookes over the pics. Definitely not his pickups. The quest continues on. Thought we'd tracked it down. If I do find out what they are I'll update. So the next time this comes up hopefully it can be answered.
