    My Epi Casino & your idea of a proper P90 tone.

    I have a 2006/7 Epi Casino with stock pick ups.
    I want to change the stock units (or at least the bridge) as they do not sound like the P90 tones that i think of, when i think ''P90''.
    To my ears that stock ones sound flat, no definition, and very dark for a 'fat sounding single coil'.

    What is the ideal vintage correct P90 tone in your mind's eye ?
    What do you guys think of the stock Epi Casino P90's ?
    (am i missing something ?)

    What do you suggest i look into ?

    The gibson p-90s are pretty good. The lollar p-90s are truly excellent if you have the cash. The rio grande bastards area solid choice as well.

    To me the ultimate p-90 sound is like a fuzzy lazer. Huge and warm with a lot of cut.

        I have the 2007 Casino and the stock pups were wound very hot which I did not care for. I put in a vintage type wind p90 and they have been in the guitar ever since. A wind around 8 k give or take may work for you too. I put in a set of Harpmaster pups which only cost $100 a set and they are still in my Epi Casino.

            I was also pretty unimpressed with the stock Epi p-90s that I've tried. I've got a friend who replaced his with some '50s wind Lollars, and it sounds fantastic now.

              In my guitar search last year I tried an Epi SG with P90s that sounded so stinking good.

              You can try larger pot values, lowering the pickup and raising the polepieces, or just toss in another set and see what happens.

              A higher value volume pot could really open them up and let them roar.

                I have an 'elitist' version of the Casino from about the same time. I bought Duncan Antiquity dogear P90s to replace them but then never did. The pickups in mine sound great. One thing I did do that made it even better was put a nylon saddle bridge. It instantly smoothed it out into a smoky jazz tone, but still had some chime and sustain for all kinds of other music.
