Re: Got a crazy pup idea.

It probably isn't EXTREMELY high output if it's only 9 Henries, but it's defienetly up there. Inductance (measured in Henries) is kinda like how much voltage (which is tranlated to loudness) a magnetic field generates. I think I recall a JB would have a little more than 8, for comparison. You have to consider the rather small and weak magnetic field of the pickup, it definetely controls the output. I bet it uses like 10,000 winds of 44 AWG a coil, like a really overwound JB. You might be just fine with a FS neck. Remember Dimebag Darrell uses a similar pickup *cough cough* in the bridge of his guitar with a '59 in the neck. But yeah, I bet a JB would work well with it!

i used to use a jb in the neck and i thought it was killer, give it a try i think the fs bridge might be a very cool neck pup

I guess you have a choice....you could either add a 9-14K neck pickup, or you could take out the 22K bridge, and come down to a more reasonable 12-16K. Personally, I'd do that. If your amp can have plenty of gain, your notes will sound bigger and more clear than by pushing it with super hot pickups. Just my 2 cents.

PS. and I agree about your theory of right handed picking technique. The adverse effects of picking up bad habits are not yet apparent to them. Not to mention looking amateur! LOL
Have to agree. 22K is huge!

    I thought the L-500XL was around 12K?

My bridge is HOT. 22k Hot. My neck it medium output, around 7k. So, since the L-500XL is so hot, and the Full shred neck isnt, what do you think about putting a Full Shred bridge in the neck, balancing it out more since its 14k?
Working...
