If I was going to use a lot of gain, I might look into a stacked design instead, or single coil-sized humbucker. You can run them in parallel for a clearer, cleaner single coilish sound.Administrator of the SDUGF

Originally posted by Douglas AdamsThis planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.

I overheard that a tapped version of the SSL-7 could be used in a variety of genres, what do you think?

It can, but with higher gain, you will get higher noise.Administrator of the SDUGF

Five Twos are great pickups. I have one in the middle of my HSS set.Administrator of the SDUGF

In the neck I have a Classic Stack. As far as Five Twos having 'beef;...well, they are single coils, and they 'feel' like single coils. So comparing them to a humbucker, they are cleaner, clearer, more dynamic, but still certainly single coils. Great for vintage sounds. You'd need a boost for heavier stuff.Administrator of the SDUGF

The Five Two is a vintage sound, not particularly modern. How do you define a modern sound? I am not familiar with the Suhr.Administrator of the SDUGF
