  • Correct wiring diagram

So I got myself my first set of Duncans, Jazz neck and a 59/custom hybrid.

I got the wiring schematic from SD website, its for 2 humbuckers, 1 vol and 1 tone with Fender style 5 way switch.

Now when I wired everything up, pickup positions on switch were all im wrong places, tone worked as volume and volume didnt work at all.

I then realised that the diagram is probably wrong and that I got the wrong switch, so I'm getting the Schaller megaswitch E type, which should allow me to get the options I want.

I found the following diagram at Schaller's website in a file with all possible wiring options that their switches provide, the configuration is called HH7.

My question is: Has anyone here tested the diagram themselves and does it work as described, also what was the deal with tone and volume from original diagram? Thanks

lets start with what you are trying to do with the switch. you are a bit limited with a fender style 5 way but that doesnt mean it cant work

Well I would like to do the following : 1- Bridge series, 2 - Bridge South coil, 3 - North coils of both pickups, 4 - neck North coil, 5 - Neck series. I figured that the Fender style switch cant do all of these combinations, and I would like it exactly like this.

It looks like the Mega "E" switch will do that. Just wire it up like the HH7 says to do. A superswitch would do it also.

Will the Tone and Volume work normal?

Yes, it does with every Megaswitch I've tried.

If the tone worked as a volume and the volume didn't work at all, that tells me the volume wasn't grounded and the tone cap was shunted to ground before getting to the output leg of the tone pot. So that part is not an issue with the switch type, but a couple issues with your wiring and soldering.

Thank you everyone for your input, I will make an update when I get the new switch and find time for wiring it all.
