  • Question on SHRP-1 P-Rails in 1 knob guitar

Thanks in advance for any advice or nudge. I want to install a p-rail into a single pup, single knob guitar. I don't want to add holes for mini toggles, and I don't want to go the triple-shot route. I've been searching and have not found the widget I need. So, on to my question.

Is there such a thing as a rotary switch/pot combo that would allow me to switch pup options and still control volume? I might be missing something simple. Help is much appreciated.

They're used extensively in test equipment, like o'scopes. Might be difficult to adapt one to the shallow confines of a guitar. They tend to be long.

Edit: Here's an oddball idea: Use a stereo output jack. Wire the P-90 to the tip, and the rails to the ring. Build a simple footswitch that allows P-90/Both/Rails. You couldn't do series because of the common ground, but I believe that's everyone's least favorite P-Rails tone.

How would you handle volume with that setup?
You will never understand How it feels to live your life With no meaning or control And with nowhere left to go You are amazed that they exist And they burn so bright
Whilst you can only wonder why

I forgot that part. Probably a dual-ganged pot would allow individual control of both.

FWIW, I personally highly recommend using the Triple-shot, the versatility vs ease and cleanliness of installation makes it a no-brainer, you can get every possible coil combination out of the P-rail, plus it doesn't require any body modifications...I have them on 4 different guitars now and not just P-rails.

I would decide on two settings I liked with the P-Rails and use a push pull. Trying to get more that that without some type of switch or triple shots does not seem feasible.
