  • Suhr SSH+?

I'm loving the Aldich! I'm wondering how the SSH+ compares. Is it just an underwound Aldrich? What does that mean? Slightly less output and slightly more open top-end? Does it run on the same "Special" Alnico 5? Does it do well in non-Strat-types? Anybody got any clips of it doing teh MeTulZ?

    Thanks!

Yup, you got it...just an underwound Aldrich. A touch less hot, slightly more open, resonant peak is shifted up just a tiny bit. It's very clear and articulate, but still packs a decent punch. Not a huge difference compared to the JB and Aldrich, but I'd actually go with the DSH+ if given a choice (same pickup as SSH+, but with double-screw poles).

Yeah, the DSH+ also seems interesting, but they describe the double screw pickups as smoother, correct?

I don't find the Aldrich too harsh, personally. It has more high-end detail than a JB, but that's not saying much, honestly. The JB is very present in the upper mids, but the highs are pretty rolled off, I find. JMO, of course.

Not that I find it harsh, I just tend to like a smooth top end in general, that is one thing I like about JBs and Tone Zones, AT-1 etc. sort of that fat lead tone. I have wanted to try the DSH+ for a while now as well.

              Ah, gotcha.

I still think the Aldrich is capable of a fat lead tone, but if you've tried and didn't like it, I guess each to his own. I love mine, but I'm mostly a rhythm chugg chugg guy.

                Pulled the trigger on one!

I'll post a clip comparing it to the Aldrich when it gets here. They won't be in the same guitar, but this time, the guitars are more similar between each other than my last few comparison clips.

Nice! Did you go with the SSH+ or DSH+?

SSH+. I had to get it in zebra because the Ebay seller didn't have it in black... so I might have to swap out the neck pickup in my guitar just for it to match, LOL.
