  • HELP: P-Bass Pickups for Lefty?

    Hi everyone,

    my problem is the following:
I'm building my first own bass guitar at the moment and decided to
put in a combination of 1 Precision and 1 Jazz Bass Pickup.
Because I'm a lefthander, it's of course a lefty bass and now my question is:
Does it matter how I place the splitted Precision Bass PU, i mean:
does the "upper" PU has to be on right or on the left side of the center line? Does it have to be on the side with the lowest string or does it depend on the PU brand used? I looked around and saw that both possibilities seem to be possible (Fender seem's to have it like this _- , while some Yamaha Basses seem to have it this way -_ ).

So, if anyone could tell me how to place it right, I'd appreciate it!

    Welcome to the forum.

It really depends how you want it to sound.
    (left bass) (neck) (pup)
----------------- | this will give you the bassier end of the lows and the more
----------------- ..| treble end of the highs (most basses, what i would do)
----------------- ..| this will give you the higher treble end of the lows and the
----------------- | bassier end of the highs

I would definetly do it the first way, since that's the way the first P bass pickups were made by leo fender and they were made that way for a reason. But again, it really just depends on what you want.

    good luck,
    cory

      Hi Cory,

      thanks a lot!
I think I'll do it the way you suggested,
      to get a better sound.

      Bye
