We tried it once. It didn't really work that well. It's still in one of the guitars in our sound room. If you ever come out here, you can listen to it -- and maybe you'll understand why we never released it.

Oh well thanks anyway Evan. I was thinking I could aim for somewhere between a Jazz/A2P bridge mix with but hey if the gurus said yuck I trust 'em.

I will get there to try it out someday though, I am determined!

That means mixing Alnico 2 and Alnico 5 magnets in the same pickup, sort of like the 52 or Nashville Studio pickups have: these are single-coils (STrat and Tele) that have A5 polepieces under the bass strings for a better clarity and A2 polepieces under the treble strings for warmer highs.
I have a Tele set in my Tele clone and they work very well.
          Gibson Hawk Series guitars rule!

Fave SD pups: Duncan Custom, Alnico II Pro, Pearly Gates, Phat Cats; Nashville Studio and Alnico II Pro for Tele; a Sadducer in my Crafter acoustic.

Works great in single coil pickups. I don't quite know why it didn't work in hummers either.

I changed my mind...I'm guessing that because of the natuarally higher output of humbuckers, the difference between the magnets stood out more...so the high strings were TOO warm and the low strings were TOO punchy. And maybe it almost sounded like a humbucker with split personality disorder.
