    Re: New pups for SG

FRED is cool, But I was looking for a bit higher output. If I had a second SG I'd load it with FREDs in a heartbeat, but I only have one *the fox breaks down sobbing*

I would solve the whole thing by slapping in some Black Iommi's but I don't want to put as much INTO the guitar as I paid for it, and I know DiMarzio's are as good as anything (and ALthough the tone doesn't sound as natural as Duncans I kinda like it)

I'm thinking about the whole FRED thing now...a ne direction, though I would like the guitar to be on fire whenever I pick it up. It just screams to me "shred, Seq, burn my fretboard" and I know I can't, least I can do is put some wicked pups in it.

The Fred and Demon are pretty close and I use both....Both are A5 and rated for around 10k...Both articulate very well also...This is the only Dimarzio pickup I've ever used...

            Re: New pups for SG

I just replaced the stock pups in my Standard SG with a 59N/Custom setup.

What a difference that made! The 59 rings like a bell...sweet clean tones through my marshall DSL.

The Custom is a little bit much on the treble side compared to my Strat which has the same pup...but I was expecting that in the SG. This thing really sings...sweet tone, great sustain, and good harmonics.

Same thing in a Les Paul....the Custom in my G400 has a noticebly more amount of high-end than the Custom in my LP, and I also expected that. I'd imagine a lot of it has to do with the wood thickness and size plus the LP having a carved maple top instead of a solid mahogany body like the G. I'm curious how much different the Custom sounds in the Strat. I'd love to hear some soundbytes if anybody has some.
I'm really stuck on the Custom humbucker....it really fits the type of music I play, which is basically classic rock and blues.

Same here. I have the Custom in my SG, Strat and LP.

I don't really have a great microphone, but I can try making some sound clips of the Strat vs SG this weekend.

The Custom in the strat sounds awesome...really thick, chunky tone while still being perfectly clear.
