  • Rock'n Strat Pups?

Well I've got the Warmoth on the way which I've decided will be my humbucker workhourse with a 59/Super Distortion combo (decent cleans and distortion, you know) so now I'm wondering what to do with my other Strat, which has three single-coils.

I really can't find a good use for the bridge single coil so I'm thinking of dropping in a Hot Rails or something similar, or maybe getting a new pickguard for a fullsize humbucker...ANYWAY...

This guitar will be my cleans-focused axe, probably for ska and acoustic-sounding songs...what's a good SSS or SSH combo for these styles? It's alder with a maple/maple neck in case you need to know...

    Thanks fellas

Two APS-1's w/ a Antiquity Custom bridge. Dun Dun Duuuuuun! probably one of the best Strat setups ever.

That sounds like a nice trio. That or straight Antiquity's like I use in my Am. Strat. I'm using an Antiquity Custom bridge in the guitar, and it does rock! It's a very surprising pickup.

Antiquities are waaaaaaaaay expensive, tho, aren't they?

I was thinkin a 59 or JB bridge with some basic (i think) SL-5s...those are the vintage-voiced, flat-pole ones, right?

They're not the cheapest SD pups, but they sound sweet. Maybe you could look for some SSL-1's or APS-1's for neck and mid, and put a SSL-3 in the bridge.

Or actually if you want flat poles the SSL-2 and APS-2 are the ones I meant.

SSL-5's are staggard w/ a huge amout of output. If you're wanting a vintage style pup w/ flat poles, go w/ the SSL-2 or the APS-2. The SSL will add brightness and springyness to a dull or dark sounding guitar, the APS will add warmth and roundness to a bright sounding guitar. If you dont want to modify the pickguard, or want that kick ass DIY look, go w/ a Lil 59 or Lil JB. I like the look of a black hotrails in my strat alot better than a black full sized hummy.

                Great post Beandip...

I think the SSL1s are pretty hard to beat and are my choice if I couldn't afford the Antiquity singles...My favs are the Antiquity Texas Hots but I also currently use both the SSL and the APS in seperate strats...I voice my strats like beandip states...Too bright,I go APS...Too dark...SSLs....

Staggered poles are the SSL1 and APS1
Flat poles are the SSL2 and the APS2s..
