i just tried to unsolder the pickups and solder it back again on
my old electric guitar, just for testing how to solder.

problem is:
i dont get any sound untill i rotate the volume knob to 10.
not even at 9! and sometimes no sound at all.

why is that?
is it the ground? :saeek:

Re: solder problems

It's possible that you overheated the volume pot, which would explain why it's not working properly. Do you happen to have a Fender no-load volume pot, or is it just a standard volume pot? The reason I ask is because no-load pots are technically removesd from the circuit when the volume is on 10. This could explain why it only works when you have the volume turned all the way up. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the pot is either damaged or wired incorrectly.

As for the hum in position 4, it sounds like you reversed the polarity of the middle pickup somehow. Most likely, you have something wired backwards. For the second and fourth positions to be hum-cancelling, the middle pickup needs to be reverse wound/reverse polarity. Are you sure you resoldered all the connections exactly as they were?
