Which pickup gets closest to that Frampton Live! sound in a Les Paul?

    Re: Peter Frampton

I know that LP used was destroyed along with a LOT of his guitars in a plane crash. It was a early soap bar LP modified with the 3 HB's. I'm not sure what kind of pups were in that one, but he did say he used Duncans and EMG's...I know those were not EMG's. Killer tone and chops on that album, he uses a Leslie speaker very tastefully.

Gibson KS 336, LP Standard, Special and Customs
Bogner, Orange, Tech 21 and Fender amps
    Celestion speakers
Duncan, Bare Knuckle, WCR and Gibson pups
    Too many pedals....

My guess is that they were 60s/70s Gibson HBs, which would have been PAF-type with Alnico V magnets. If that's correct then the closest Duncans would be '59s. If they were older 50s PAFs with Alnico II magnets, then Seths or Antiquities.

I think Simon's right about Frampton's old guitar. The new Gibson signature LP uses a 500T (bridge), '57 Classic Plus (middle), and '57 Classic (neck). The last I saw him, he and Jack Bruce were palying with Ringo's outfit. Killer tone from what looked like a LP Classic.
