  • Most versitile pups for hsh

Im thinking about making my own guitar from scratch but first i need to know everything im putting into so i can price it and get the money together.

Its going to be a mahogany sg body with a hsh setup with a 5way selector and a push pull pot to split the hums.

I was just wondering what the most versitile hums are to put into it. I want to get all sorts of sounds from Guns n Rose to metalica to funeral for a friend to plaebo to **** dale and even some punk and riot grrl.

I would apreciate some help please.

    Thanks

An HSH SG! That should be pretty cool.

I hope you post pics when you get it done.

what Robert said + what i'd do is

get a coil tap on the buckers to get strat/tele "ish" tones.

When they're winding a coil, they'll stop at say, 75% done, and attach an extra wire. They'll let that hang out to the side, then continue with the rest of the winding process.

That gives you an extra connection, or "tap", at some inner portion of the coil. Its like giving you two different coil strengths in one p'up.

what robert said is likely the best advice you can get ...

i'll offer another opinion just to give you something to consider ... using a little humbucker in the middle can give nice (quiet!) results .. i use a duck, and love it, but i've heard great things from hot rails, cool rails, vintage rails, and lil 59 ... i really like an AIIP or PGn also .. but the JB bridge is probably most versatile

so a JB - VR - AIIP guitar would be a fine player as well

                  good luck

What do you think of an JB Rythem-SSl2 mid-Pearly gates lead?

                    Is it versitile?

If I were to go that route, I would buy Joe Bardens (no offense to Seymour).

The Two Tone, while expensive... nails humbucker and strat tones in one great combination. I'm sure that paired with an SSL by Duncan or a Vintage Hot from Fralin, this would be absolutely killer.

I know Im probably pissing people off asking so many questions but I was just wondering what people thought of this set up

Neck - Alinico ll or '59 with coil split
Mid- SSL6 Custom Flat with a tap
Bridge - JB with coil split

Which neck pup is the more versitile?

Thanks and sorry again for all the questions

My Strat is HSH. I have a Screamin' Demon in the bridge a stock in the middle and a Jazz in the neck. I enjoy it a lot.... the Jazz is very smooth and versatile and the SD does a great job of dirty and straight-forward hard rock (even metal). I don't have the highest output with this setup, but I have a ton of versatility and great split-coil tones. Just a couple things to consider.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.
