Anyone put an A2 magnet in a JB?

I very well may pickup a Epiphone Les Paul and I was thinking of putting a Screamin' Demon in the neck with a JB in the bridge. I was wondering though if the JB ends up sounding too hard or brittle if I could have some success putting an A2 magnet in it to smoothen out the highs.

What is the purpose of this metal wire?

I picked up a wiring harness for a Strat awhile ago and tonight I was looking at it and I noticed this metal wire that goes across two lugs. What is it for? And if I remove this switch because it's a 5-way and I like to use 3-way switches, will I have to resolder in this metal wire? I've...

How to make the SSL-4 work in the neck

I picked up a Blackmore Strat which is loaded with SSL-4's. No problem at all in the bridge. But when I switch to the neck pickup the sound under the treble strings is OK but when I get to the bass strings the sound gets kinda too fat and boomy. I've seen people on YouTube playing this same...

You guys using the Pearly Gates and what do you think of them?

How many of you guys have experience with the Pearly Gates set? I've long been thinking of trying a set. I play mostly hard rock and metal with lots of gain.

I can't find a neck model for the Screamin Demon

Does Duncan make a specific neck model for this pickup, or can you just stick the same bridge model in the neck?

Orientation of a magnet for a magnet swap

I'm going to be removing a ceramic bar magnet from a Custom and replacing it with a A2. I have a polarity tester. If I hold the tester along the edge of the A2 magnet I get either North or South depending on how I'm holding the magnet. As far as I know, I would want to place the south edge of...

    Neck pickup choices

I'm currently using a Distortion in the neck of my Les Paul but was wondering about other choices. Is the 59 neck too boomy and bassy in the neck of a Les Paul? I'd like articulation but also sweetness.

I don't think I'm all that happy with the way the Custom is sounding

I've used the Custom before with good results but right now I put it in my Iced Tea 60's Les Paul and it sounds kinda sterile. The sound isn't sweet like it should be. I was wondering if I put in an Alnico 5 magnet it would make it less brittle and more sweet. Or the other way is try a new...

Where do you put the heat shrink tubing?

I ordered a Les Paul toggle switch that comes with 3 metal braided wires coming from it and the seller also enclosed a piece of heat shrink tubing. Looking at the size of the tubing it does not look like the diameter would be big enough to go around all 3 metal braided wires plus it looks like...

I'm confused after reading the message I got concerning my wiring harness

I sent the seller and maker of the 50's style wiring harness (pots) a message and he got back to me a little while ago. He verified that the black wires that are soldered on the pots are the ground wires. But then he said "just connect the pickup hot leads and jack hot leads to the volume as the...

Another question concerning the wiring on my pot wiring harness

When I look at the pot wiring harness I ordered it appears the only two connections that are there is the ground wire that connects all four pots together and two orange drop caps. I don't see any other connections or wires present. I ordered what is called a 50's wiring harness. When I look at...

It looks like there is a fourth wire coming out of the Duncan wiring diagram

The 3-way toggle switch I ordered has 3 wires coming from it. One goes to the neck volume, one goes to the bridge volume, and the third goes to the output jack tip. But when I look at my Duncan diagram which I printed it appears there is a fourth wire coming out of the top of the toggle switch...

Is this wiring diagram correct and accurate?

Just in case I decide to rewire my Epiphone Les Paul with a pot wiring harness and a new switch harness is this Duncan diagram accurate and correct to your knowledge? Here is what I printed out: https://www.seymourduncan.com/resources/pickup/wiring-diagrams

I just ordered a switch with wires plus a pot harness

The wiring harness with the pots comes attached to a metal plate or shield. If I choose to remove that when installing the new pots in my Les Paul do I have to run a ground wire across all 4 pots then? And if I choose to keep the shield in place I don't have to run a ground wire?

As I recall the pickup wires have nothing to do with the molex

Many years ago when I traced the wires in one of my Epiphone Les Pauls I thought I discovered that you do not need to remove the molex. Because the wires going to the molex come from the toggle switch, not the pickups. So in order to change pickups in an Epiphone Les Paul you merely need to...
