The P-Rail neck pickup has a lot of fans - and I’m one of them. I use it in the neck of most of my guitars, but 97% on the P90 coil. I would describe its sound as Strat-like highs with warm low end, and from my experience is unmatched by any other pickup except the Fishman Fluence neck P90 in...
I bought a Vintage P90 for the neck on a new PPP build, but it isn’t at all what I want. I’ve also tried a Planet Tone Elite Pro and a Reverend P90. The tone I want is the P coil of a PRail (I’ve got 3 other guitars with PRails in the necks. This guitar has a specific design goal: a gold top...

Is it possible to boost and brighten up the “Strat” sound of a PRail? I don’t use it in series or even parallel, so I don’t care about the coils matching. I’d just like a brighter, louder “Stratier” rail coil.
I’m building a new Warmoth HSH super Strat and considering what to put in the bridge position. I have a Fralin Unbucker (a humbucker with one coil wound hotter than the other) in another HSH guitar and like it both in series and single coil mode. I’m not a big fan of the PRail in the bridge...
I love the P coil of a PRail in the neck position, however the series humbucker sound is too dark to be useful for me. I’m wondering about using a pot (or some other component) on the P coil only in the series mode so I can use maybe 2/3 of it. Any ideas?
I have several Seymour Duncan humbuckers that have had the “legs” altered from the original threaded holes. On a couple, I drilled them out to screw directly into the guitar, and on others I shortened the legs to fit in a specific guitar that had shallow cavities. Now these pickups cannot be...
I'm trying to find a toggle switch that would allow the following on an HSH guitar:
Position 1: wires 1&2
Pos 2: wires 3&4
Pos 3: wires 5&6
The idea is to place the switch in the upper bout and allow position 1 to be just coil 5 (P coil on a Prail), position 2 to be whatever is selected on the 5...
I’m wiring up a couple prails and a single and plan to use a super switch in conjunction with a fender s1 pot/switch. I haven’t been able to figure out how to connect a hum in both series and parallel on the 5 way switch. I’m sure I’m being thick and it’s quite simple. Help, please!
By the way...
I’ve got a chambered mahogany/maple top super Strat with a Floyd that I’d like to convert to a P90 in the neck, Strat middle and hum bridge. Which pickups would you suggest for this combination? I’m a working musician and play a wide range of styles, but rarely metal. I mainly use middle single...
I’m a big PRail fan, but the rail is not as nice as the P90 coil for me in the neck position. I generally go with the parallel setting instead, if I want to thin it a little. I’m not concerned about sacrificing the series hum sound as I rarely use it.
Can anyone recommend a magnet swap for the...
Has anyone tried using a resistor or spin-a-split on the P90 coil of a P-Rail, to make the series humbucker mode less dark? I like the P and Strat modes, but the full series humbucker is too dark for me.
(I’ve been playing for 40 years and yesterday was the first time I ever heard of these mods.)
I've got a nice Godin LGX SA that has two good-sounding SD humbuckers and a 5 way switch. But, I miss the "Strat" in between sound on position 2 & 4 (these currently split the humbuckers). I'm considering adding a PRail right flush with the neck pup, which would place the Strat portion more or...
My custom built '80s Floyd Rose super strat with EMG SAs needs a pickup makeover. I want to replace the pups with passives. I tried a couple of Carvin TBH60s (Single-size rail humbuckers) with a Bartolini in the middle, that I had lying around, but the Carvins were too hard sounding for me. The...
