I've never gotten my hands on a Suhr, but I would expect it would be very similar to the Jackson/Charvels I have and similar to the Andersons I have tried out.
Shipping tube amps is so hit or miss. I suspect premature failure of a power tube that blew the fuse, much like like others have mentioned.
50s tech is pretty robust. When I got my XTC 101B used, I literally poured pieces out of the box. Tubes were actually sheared off in the sockets and...
I'm no expert, but I've dealt with very compressed A5 and very dynamic ceramic, especially in those lower to mid output pickups. Higher output will generally always be more compressed, regardless of magnet. I think ceramics are used more often in high output so the myth is perpetuated.
When I was young and that came out, it was Metallica in a cheap pedal before the amps that do that were available to us poors. I've seen guys run that into a loop return on amps and use it as a preamp and it does that job fairly well there.
I'd say I like it more out of nostalgia than practicality.
I've opted for more medium output pickups now that there is such a range of high gain amps. But as noted above, it depends on application. How your guitar hits the front of the amp matters for response, feel, and tone. I still like plugging my old 90s Charvel with Heavy Metal Live Wires into a...
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It just sounds and feels like, "Yes! There it is!" Bogner is a magician, I like every one of his amps I've ever plugged into and own a good number. All are excellent, but the Snorkler is perfect. The only other manufacturer I've ever plugged into and...
It's been a couple of months, and after the honeymoon..... the Snorkler 50 is the greatest amp ever made. It's my desert island amp. If Bogner ever added his one knob clean channel with bright switch from the Helios Eclipse, it would do everything. What it doesn't do is a great super clean or...
Agreed.... though I'd ask myself, why re-invent the wheel when someone else has done "a thing" better than anyone else, at scale, cost effectively, and partnered with others to provide that "thing". But, that's my LLC side speaking.
