I'm wanting to put low gain BC109B transistors into wah pedals to replace the high gain ones, and I'm not sure how to test their HFE on a multimeter. I've put the red lead on the B and C pins together, and the black lead on the E pin. The transistors I'm testing are supposed to be 200 - 450...

Looking to replace the hot stock wah transistors with more vintage sounding ones (BC109C). Does it matter which way the outside prongs are soldered in? Or do they work the same in either direction?

What make/model of fuzz did Erik Brann of Iron Butterfly use? He got some great tones with it, live and in the studio. Germanium or silicone?

What kind of PU's are in a Fender Modern Player Jazz bass? They're HB's, look like they may be two Jazz bass single coils put together. Does this PU have a name, and is it used in other basses, Fender or otherwise? Does anyone make aftermarket versions of it?

Any Thunderbird fans out there? I really like them, the pinnacle of Gibson's basses. They got the PU's, PU placement, and scale right (no small feat for Gibson). The neck-thru part is great too. They've got the low end of a P bass, and twin PU's like a J bass. Well-designed instrument.

I have an older Epi EB-3 SG bass I need help with. The 'stop bar' has two big screws that go into metal shafts (anchors?) in the wood. On the treble, one shaft/anchor is coming out of the wood, maybe 1/4", due to string tension. I've never had this happen with a guitar. What's the fix for this?
