If you're looking for Petrucci-esque fat leads, you might want to look at the Sentient neck, or something like an Air Norton. IME, the Jazz does not take gain very well.

All this hype about the Black Winter set is wild. On paper, they look like super overwound pickups in the vein of Invaders and such, but many experienced members here speak to their versatility. I might end up getting a set if/when GAS strikes again some day.

I don't know the connections of the Ibanez switch off the top of my head, but it's different from the CRL 5-way on the diagram from SD. On Duncan pickups, black wire is hot. Red and white are for splitting the coils. Green and bare are ground. Colors will not match either DiMarzio or Ibanez...

That's very similar to an Eclair neck from MJ. Might be my favourite neck pickup of all time. Of course, MJ has something to do with that as well. Every pickup she winds is magic to my ears.

Haha, love that analogy! :LOL: These days I'm experimenting with the tone cap wired to a push/pull pot, and I'm surprised at how often I prefer the tone cap disconnected entirely. It increases highs, yes, but also the "feel" and sensitivity of the strings to the slightest nuance.

Stewmac sells high quality tape of that exact sort. Cloth ones too. You can also get some for cheaper at Amazon.

The EMG 81 is most definitely a one trick pony, but it's a hell of a trick. That thing is dialed in to that one sound to the exclusion of all else. There's nothing that sounds quite like it.

IMO, a Dimebucker with the volume rolled of does not make a PAF any more than a PAF with a bunch of pedals make a Dimebucker. Dimebag and Gilmour are good examples of either approach. Ultimately it all depends on your own ears and playing style.
