    Nicked a wire

It’s definitely not the wire running to the coil. Maybe later today I’ll take it apart even more and look at the ground wire connection to the coil.

    Nicked a wire

I could see how the hot wire was broken away from the braided wire at the solder joint since it’s out in the open when getting the magnet out but how that coil got damaged….dunno. The only wire coming from it is the wire grounded to the baseplate. And it looks fine. Live and learn I...

    Nicked a wire

That’s the weird part. I can’t see how that happened. I took the wrap off the coil and everything looks fine. But….apparently I damaged it somehow. 🤷‍♂️

    Nicked a wire

So after discovering that the pole piece coil isn’t providing a reading via my multimeter, I took apart another pickup I have (made by a small boutique pickup maker) and soldered in the pole piece coil to the slug coil of the SD 59. And it works. It’s kinda strange how the pole piece coil got...

    Nicked a wire

Nope. No reading at all. So I started taking it apart even more and separated the coils. Somehow, and I don’t know how, the pole piece coil is not providing a reading. The slug side does.

    Nicked a wire

Yep. I’ve changed magnets before but I’m guessing that since this one was wax potted that I wasn’t as careful as I should have been. It shouldn’t be this difficult. Solder two wires back together and voila. But nope. lol.

    Nicked a wire

For the sake of experimenting I thought I’d try an A2 in 59. As careful as I thought I was, I inadvertently nicked the braided lead wire where it’s soldered to the black coil wire. I’ve soldered them back together but can’t get a reading with my multimeter. I’ve tried other pickups (in...

59,T Top and the old 490r/t

When you already have the pickups, it’s different from trying to decide what model to buy and possibly waste $$ if you don’t like the sound. But since you already have the pickups, heat up your soldering iron and see what happens. It’s fun to discover what pickups provide different sounds...

    T-Tops

I hate a set of Pat # in an old Gibson (they’re not T-Tops) and have used guitars with PAFs many times before. Like I said earlier, I find that they sound ok (and have used them in a LP for a while) they’re just lacking, for lack of a better term, balls. Granted, that’s just my opinion of...

    T-Tops

To me, they just don’t have the overall boomyness of SD or other pickups.

    T-Tops

I think T-Tops sound ok but they just don’t have the power as compared to modern day pickups. Would a stronger magnet help? I dunno. I’m also of the opinion that if they were really that good — and this could apply to PAFs as well — our guitar heroes of days gone by would be using them...

    Seymour sig?

I have to admit that of the SD pickups I’ve used previously (59, PG and 78) the Antiquity bridge pickup seems to provide the sound I’ve been looking for in a LP. At least right now. Lol. It’s hard to describe a sound — everyone’s adjectives will be different. But it seems very smooth...

    Seymour sig?

Thanks. I was wondering if the date code was as obvious as that but hadn’t got around to Googling it yet.

    Seymour sig?

I’m going to guess that since it was wound by Seymour that it has to be somewhat old. The bridge measures 8.2k. I forget exactly what the neck is but I think it was 7.7-ish.

    Seymour sig?

I had the chance to buy a set of older Antiquities today…..so I did. I don’t know how old — the seller said he’d had them quite a while. I’m guessing that’s Seymour’s signature?
