ST59 in a standard Tele bridge

I put an ST59-1 in a shecter Telecaster. The Bridge is now super noisy. And produces a really annoying ring when the guitar is turned up. I tried changing bridges and the problem is the same. Does this sound like a pickup problem? I've notice that the square(ish) corners of the pickup coils...

Epiphone Sorento, bridge pickup seemingly very weak

I've got an Epiphone Sorento on my bench (some sort of special edition guitar). It's a thin hollow body guitar with mini humbuckers. From what the owner says the pickups are Gibson mini humbuckers. I'm encountering something I've never really noticed before. The high E string is almost...

70's telecaster custom, tone knobs not working

I've never seen wires come off the volume pots, go to the center lug on a tone pot and then cross over to the "usually" empty lug before. Would this cause the tone knobs to not work? (which is what's going on right now) .

EMG Active pickups, getting signal but none of the controls work...

The guitar in front of me has active EMG pickups, 1 volume, 1 tone, and a 3 way (tele style) blade switch. When I plug the guitar into an amp I'm getting signal, but from both pickups, the switch does nothing, and neither do the pots. I just replaced the pots with 25k bourns pots. I'm pretty...

Tele bridge pickup tone knob issue. I'm stumped.

I've got a Squier tele thinline in front of me. The neck pickup works just like I'd expect, and the volume and tone pot work properly. When I switch to the bridge pickup it's extremely thin sounding but still present, when I roll the tone knob off there's almost no volume at all. Does this...

Mystery 4 wire pickup is out of phase

I'm working on a guitar with some old mystery pickups in them. The neck pickup is a 4 wire pickup, and the best I can tell, the black wire is the north coil start and the white is the finish, and on the south coil the green is start and red is finish. I've connected the red and white wires, the...

Trying to wire a Big Apple Strat

I've been trying to wire up a Big Apple Strat from scratch. It's got 2 seymour duncan humbuckers and a 5 way blade super switch. Positions 1, 3, and 5 are traditional 2 humbucker sounds, position 2 is the inside coil of each pickup and position 4 is the neck as a single coil. I'm confident I've...

Dead neck pickup in an old Jackson/Charvel

I'm working on an old Jackson/Charvel, that's been sitting in a case for years. The neck pickup appears to be dead. I'm getting no sound from it, and it doesn't register on my meter. There's nothing obviously wrong with the pickup, but there's not much to see as it has plastic covers (like...

replacing an input jack for active electronics

I've got an old jackson/charvel with active elctronics and the plastic input jack seems to be broken. I want to replace it with a switchcraft jack. I've got a couple here, one is a straight mono jack, the other is a stereo jack, but not the typical TRS kind of stereo jack I've seen in all the...

Getting my head around resistance and tele bridge pickups

I know pickup resistance is only part of the equation, but I'm curious, and don't really have a frame of reference for these numbers. How different would a tele bridge pickup measuring about 6.7k be to one that measures about 7.5k. I know more resistance usually means a "hotter" pickup, but...

Coil splitting and out of phase push pull pots, unsure about the results

Re: Coil splitting and out of phase push pull pots, unsure about the results It'll be pretty hard to tell from photos I think, there's a lot of wires, and tiny lugs tucked away but here is the diagram...

Coil splitting and out of phase push pull pots, unsure about the results

I just put a couple push pull pots into a tele clone. The guitar has an SD Vintage stack in the neck and a little 59 in the bridge. I wanted the volume pot to split the coils, and the tone pot to put the pickups out of phase. I wired it up using a Seymour Duncan diagram and am unsure of the...

    Humbucker phasing issues

A customer dropped off this old homemade looking guitar (could be an aria or a vantage) that has been gathering dust for years, it needs some new guts. Pretty standard layout, 2 humbuckers, 3 way toggle, 2 volumes, 2 tones, jack, and a DPDT switch for splitting the humbuckers. The only thing...

Circuit board in newish les paul studio?

I haven't jumped into the deep end of this one quite yet. Just cracked it open to see what I was dealing with. I have a customer who wants me to replace the stock pickups in his les paul studio with some Seymour Duncans. Should be pretty simple. Nope. Turns out this guitar has a circuit board...

2 les pauls identical pickup drastically different tone...

'94 les paul standard, '76 les paul custom. Identical Seymour Duncan custom humbuckers. These guitars should sound similar, but they are drastically different sounding. I realize a guitar is the sum of its parts, but really as far the amplified tone goes isn't the pickup 90% of the equation...
