Hi All I have bought Screamin Little Demon, and Strat 59, pick ups fro a fender Strat. There are 4 wires. The Strat wiring diagram calls for 3. You guys out there know better than me, one goes to volume control, one to the switch and one to ground. What is the fourth wire for?

Simple question - if I was to upgrade the pick ups on a Fender Stratocaster what would you guys suggest. It's nothing fancy at the moment - bought it second hand it is a 90's guitar made in USA. The guitar is used for rock with a little melodic thrown in from time to time.
