How is the sound of the pickup affected by a cover? Is there a difference between a covered Pearly Gates vs a non-covered Pearly Gates?

I was wondering if there will be any difference in tone (humbucking mode) if I were to wire a "Pearly Gates" for split vs not wired for split? If so, what would the difference be? Thanx! Danjel
