I just got a Ceriatone 18W, which is a clone of the Marshall 1974. Its original tranny was replaced with a Hammond by the previous owner and the tube rectifier replaced with a SS one (just a bunch of diodes). I since had it "restored" to a tube rectifier (JJ EZ81) but kept the Hammond.

So this would be a modern, "standard" Gibson p90 right? Nothing special about them?
I'm buying some ceramic magnets to try to increase output
I really love the Duncan Custom P90, but not sure if I'm going to swap that out from my 71/72 SG
Scary stuff in there haha!
My Alt8 has been the pickiest pickup I ever owned. Tried it in 2 LPs and didn't like it, until it finally clicked in a 3rd LP. It's staying there.
2nd pickiest pickup I owned is a PGn. Lost all its bass in a LP and sounded thin, but excellent in my Goth Explorer. It's...
Don't get me wrong - I can make a Bridge HB work in the neck position. It's just darker versus its calibrated/dedicated neck version.
In fact, a 59b is still in the neck position of my Yamaha SG1000. Though that guitar was always bright-sounding to begin with.
I think this works for moderate output single coils and single coil-sized humbuckers.
For full size humbuckers, a bridge pup would sound significantly darker when you put them in the neck position. Happened to me 2x with a 59b.
I made the mistake of assuming all Gibson LPs use "standard" spacing. The LPC I got had 53mm spacing. My DD did not line up and it bothered me visually, but I never heard any difference - no drop in volume in the high e and low E strings. You can also raise up the screws 1 and 6 screws if you...
The distortion is definitely the hottest of the 3. They're all bright pickups, which is what I like for the bridge position. What differentiates the distortion from the Custom and JB to me is that it has a lot of "bite" to it, like if you pick hard, you really hear it.
The "upper mid range spike" turned me off in the beginning as well. I just took a chance at a cheap JB Jr in the used market and dropped it into my Am Std strat and I was blown away! I had to get the real, full sized JB. I play mostly metal and hard rock and love 80s glam rock, and it made...
