What's the tone difference? Both seem like they are just wax potted PAF type pickups with alnico 5 mags. Also, I don't know why Gibson puts alnico II mags in their 60's SG reissues when I heard that they switched to alnico 5 mags during the 60s. Like all the Explorers, V's, and SGs had Alnico...

Ive been thinking about getting a steves special for one of my guitars. The only person I know who used this pickup is john petrucci, so I would like to know how other users like it and if its good for other styles of rock besides prog/metal/shred. and how does it sound without so many effects?

Does Anyone else think its dumb that they put a JB in signature model? He played a duncan distortion! Why would they do this? Maybe they jut have an abundance of JB's and buyng new distortions would be expensive? I donno does anyone know why they do this?:sigh:

The blackouts are so loud, someone said they would be too bassy in an all mahogany guitar, but that is so not true! this thing is a beast on all frequencies, its incredibly loud! i dont see what the use for the blackout metal would be, unless you are just totally not going to use any distortion...

whats with the diagram showing 100k tone pot for the bridge? is the black out bridge really dark? I have a set and im getting ready to install, but I have only 4 25k pots? Is that a typo or what?

just played dimarzio super distortion pickup over the weekend and overall i like it better than the x2n. the super distortion is so raw its great. i have blackouts on order but i think i want to get a guitar with the paf super distortion set up now also. shredding with the super distortion setup...

this seems like an awesome pickup.....its DC reasistance is really high and its listed as a really hot pickup, sooo does this mean its best used with a 1 meg pot or a 2 meg pot, or is it okay with a 500k pot? which is what i have in my guitar right now.:onder:

has anyone used a tele quarter pounder with a 500k volume pot and a 250k tone...would this sound good ?
