    A couple recent builds.

Yes, Chris Squire and many others played stereo...at least two channels. There was a time when I played guitar thru 3 amps splitting my signal to 3 separate channels.

I'm a big dummy and I just installed Black Winter rails upside down. But... I don't hate the sound. Should I fix them?

It won't make any noticeable difference to the sound. But, like Mincer said, if you split the pickup there could be. If you don't mind the esthetics then just leave it.

    Guitar Neck Issue

My vote also for reshaping it yourself. Just reducing the shoulders can make the neck feel way smaller/thinner. Leave the thickness in the center for a soft "V" shape, but take off all the finish then use TruOil, Tung, or boiled Linseed to finish it.

    First guitar is progressing

It's looking very good so far. It's interesting that you said that the..."body blank was a little over 8 pounds. It's a very light body." My entire completed guitar builds including neck, hardware, and finish are right at 6 pounds.

    Tru Oil finish?

You can add about 30% poly to TruOil to get a more durable finish. Apply the same as pure TruOil. I usually wipe on 3-6 coats then wet sand with 600-800 grit using the TruOil instead of water. This helps to fill pores. Then continue as many coats as you desire to get the finish you want.

NGD - Once upon a time, I was falling in love, but now I'm only falling apart

I originally thought that working on my own instruments would save me money, but it just led to my obsession of building guitars. Even selling some hasn't totally reimbursed me for my costs to make so many guitars. Oh well, it's more of a creative hobby anyway.

    Nut - the least friction

There can really only be two causes for this tuning instability: tuners or nut. I'd like to know what guitar/headstock style we're talking about, because Gibson types are the worst. Fender type headstocks with straight-pull strings thru the nut are by far the best. But IF the nut is "properly...

Yes. (Sorry it took me so long to get back to you). That allows me to send a clean signal to one amp and a dirty one to another. For example, "Think for Yourself" by the Beatles...one pup thru fuzz to one amp, the other pup clean to another amp. Sounds soooo much fuller than just playing your...

Hss wiring with Bridge n neck on 2nd position

In position 1 the humbucker would be full and in position 2 the humbucker would be split.

Split coil - active screw coil

There are two things you can do. The simplest would be to rotate the pickup so the slug coil would be next to the bridge. Or you could change the wiring to split to the outside coils instead of the inside coils. I personally like the sound of split to the outside coils much better than inside...

Used Fret Doctor on the new Washburn fret board and WOW!

I've been playing for over 65 years and have been in the business of making guitars for 20 years. From my experience, I have found that it is almost impossible to hear the tonal differences between two totally different types of fretboard woods (notice I said "almost"). I find it extremely hard...

    A couple recent builds.

I use a stereo jack with both Jazz pups going to the tip of the jack (like normal guitar wiring). I have a SPDT switch (actually, I use half of a p/p tone pot) which sends the Precision signal to either the tip (for normal mono output) or the ring (for stereo output). It's really very simple and...

    A couple recent builds.

I made two other P/J basses. The first one was pretty traditional as far as pickup spacing is concerned. It is an amazing bass in every respect so I decided to make another but I moved the precision pup a little closer to the neck to get even more fullness. With both pups on the sound is full...

    A couple recent builds.

I forgot to mention that both guitars are chambered. The guitar weighs right at 6 lbs 2 oz., the bass is just 7 lbs 13 oz. The guitar is finished in high gloss nitro lacquer with oil finished neck, and the bass is finished with Glancy's #1 Oil (very similar to Tru-Oil).

    A couple recent builds.

Hey guys. It's been a while since I've posted anything on the forum. I've been very busy with some health issues and with building many guitars (about 20 new ones) in the past year or two. It looks like there have been a few changes to the forum since I last posted. I hope I can still remember...
