    Introducing the Garbagecaster

I have been on a Telecaster bender recently, and while I like the bridge position, the neck position has always been a problem. So, I have been experimenting with different types of neck pickups. I recently tried a Firebird neck pickup in another Telecaster, and I think they are the perfect neck...

    4-Way Tele V/V/T Schematic Help

I drew up this schematic with two volumes and one tone. Terminals 2 and 3 on the right are tied together on the original and go to the volume. The pickups go to the volumes first and then from the switch to the output in mine. Are 2 and 3 still tied together?

    Mustang Coming Soon

I bought a reliced black Sonic Series Mustang body a few weeks ago off Craigslist. It's a light basswood plank body and although it looks like it has a tremolo it's actually a fixed bridge. There's no spring cavity below the bridge plate and the cigar tailpiece is bolted to the bridge plate...

    Fender Mustang Mod

I have a Fender Mustang project and it uses a 3-way toggle instead of the two slider switches aka Duosonic. If I use a push/pull volume pot for phase reversal would it have the same 4 switching options as the two sliders?

    What does $25 buy?

It bought a barely used Ktone hollowbody. I have already replaced the neck pickup with a Lundgren Designed A2 pickup from a Hagstrom Fantomen and a Duncan Custom with RCUO A5 in the bridge. I already had the pickups so no expense there. I bought black rings and a wrap around bridge for it...

Show me some pedal kit makers.

Some layouts are simple enough that you don't need a kit. I like turretboard layouts the best because they are easy to build, test, and modify. https://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/

Any Opinions on the Mosrite Fuzzrite?

Here's the schematic for the circuit. The two sides of the circuit are mirror images and their combined signal creates crossover distortion which gives it that distinctive buzzsaw tone. There are a lot of clones available.

    Introducing the MAGPIE preamp

A few years ago I went through a phase of adding piezo pickups to a few of my instruments with magnetic pickups. Since I didn't want to add a preamp to my instruments I wired the piezo to go straight to the sleeve of a stereo output jack while the magnetic pickups used the tip and they shared...

    Another "ugly" from Rick Turner.

The body shape is an Aria The Cat crossed with a Burns Bison.

    Burnside Fuzz

I built this two weeks ago but I didn't have the right sized knobs. I'm calling it the Burnside Fuzz in honor of Major General Ambrose Burnside because it's a different type of fuzz face. The enclosure is a nice Hammond that came from some sort of AV converter that I scrapped. It has two PNP...

    NOMD

New Old Mixer Day. Earlier this week I saw a curb alert for some free audio gear on Craigslist. So, I stopped by after work and picked up a Shure M67 4-channel microphone mixer, a Behringer crossover, and a Yamaha power amp. The power amp was garbage so I scrapped it and got dozens of...

    Three new circuits

The Anarchotone is a distortion with some fuzzy characteristics. Tommy Bolin used an Astrotone. The first half of the circuit including the hard clipping diodes is pretty much an Electra Fuzz which many other distortion circuits use as a starting point. The difference with the Astrotone is...

    Three new circuits

Anarchotone - This started as a Sam Ash Astrotone clone but diverged early on. The diode clipping section had two large value coupling capacitors that I couldn't see the point of. I also couldn't see the point of having such a great sounding front end going into a wimpy sounding output buffer...

    WEM/Rush Pepbox

A few weeks ago I was at a surplus store and they have old circuit boards. While looking for Germanium transistors I saw a board with six BC107 NPN silicon transistors and six BFX88 PNP silicon transistors. I was able to salvage them and they all tested good. The Pepbox was the first British...

    I built this

This circuit is based on the OMFUG Fuzz. I didn't use the Manhattan wiring method. I used point to point wiring on a turretboard. It's a messy layout but it works very well. It pisses me off when I build something that I think sounds cool in a demo and mine sounds very different. Mine was very...
