    STRAT saddles and Bridges

I think the 6 screw if you are building a vintage style or inspired Strat. I would definitely go block design if you were building a more modern style Strat. Probably a Wilkinson 2 screw bridge too. They make fantastic bridges. I do love Callaham bridges for vintage style strats. His stuff is...

Check out this hot piece of ash

I have an Ash Strat copy that I got from one of the smaller builders/suppliers online. I can’t recall their name right now. It’s not all that heavy,, but heavy for a Strat. I have a maple boarded neck on it currently, from Warmoth. I really need a rosewood board to mellow it out a bit. I just...

    NGD-Jackson SL2H "Pile O' Skulls"

I have loved that guitar for a long time. I miss sweet paintjobs like that. Jackson did a great job on so many different paint jobs. I love the Custom/APH-II pickup combo too. I have that exact setup in one of my Dean Hardtails. Rock machine. Glad you found such a sweet axe. Congrats.

    What guitar?

I’d like to have/play a Charvel, an SG, and Explorer and a Firebird. I really prefer a 24 3/4” scale to the Fender 25” scale. That’s why I like my Dean USA made Hardtails so much. Good double cut clarity and the shorter scale length.

What is IYO the best Tune-O-Matic?

I settled on a Faber locking ABR-1 and a Faber Aluminum TP on my 57’ RI. However, I really had no problems with the Tone Pro’s locking ABR’s. I have those on my two Dean USA Hardtails and have for 20 years now. I have to use the OEM Dean tailpieces as they are unique to the Hardtail design. I...

    Giving the Jazz another chance

I think you might love the change from the A5 to the A2 mag if you keep the pots at 500K. Sometimes, but not always, the rolloff on the high end is too much. I find this very guitar dependent. I would try both the mag change AND the A5 version with a 250K pot. I think your huckleberry will be...

Could 250k tonepot with humbucker be why sound is so dark in HSS strat

I always put 500K pots with Humbuckers and 250-350 pots for singles. Then you can put your choice of tone caps on each pot. This always solves that issue for me. I personally prefer .022 caps on humbuckers and .047 on singles, in an HSS guitar, but you can customize that to your specific taste.

    Air Zone vs Custom Custom

I know I am late to this thread, but a fantastic pickup for that bright guitar with a floating trem is a Parallel Axis Blues Saraceno model. It is specifically designed to go with floating trem spacing and the specific issues people want to change about them. Normally I would suggest the...

Double Cream Pickups - Seymour Duncan and Several More "Custom" Sets

Hey man, sorry for the late reply, Ive been out of town on a family emergency. I wouldn’t mind shipping it to the UK, but I think it’s going to be pricy. If that is ok with you, you could PayPal me for the pickup itself, and then I can message you with the final shipping cost and you could...

    les paul + brobucker + a3?

See Jeremy, in either my 57’ LP or in my Dean Hardtails, the Brobucker seemed a bit wooly and dark, even with upgraded 500K pots and .0015 caps. I think an A3 would be a significant difference from the stock degaussed A5. An A4 might even be better. Your ears may vary though. I think an A2...

    Most unique sounding humbuckers?

I have a JB from the 80’s that sounds different from the stock JB that came in my 2003 Dean Hardtail. I also ended up with a 2016 JB that sounded a bit different from the other two, but closer to the 2003 model. I had the same experience with a Custom from the 80’s. The DC reading is over 1K...

    What a find!

I have the two same pickups, although mine did not come as a set. They are magical. Nice score.

A2 in a JB what changes?

I never got along with the standard JB. Then I stumbled upon an 80’s JBJ and it had so much more of that 80’s Dokken, Ratt, etc sound of all those 80’s bands. After that, I payed a bit of silly money for a “The JB Model” version, and the sound changed again. Not a major change, but noticeable...
