I have the satch track in my js2450.
All this talk about 24 fret location and how a single rails pickup is going to sound way different.
I don't hear anything but a really good neck humbucker that has a touch of a single coil vibe to it.
Good job btw.
Sorta. 8.4k vs 8.27. Thats not much different.
Its slightly lower powered. 275 vs 300mv
Its supposedly brighter by dimarzio's ratings as well, but I dont hear it.
To me, the biggest difference is in the attack. The paf joe is smoother. That has to be the warmer highs and mids of the VV...
I started my p90 journey withva set of tonerider rebel 90s in my as73.
I didnt know how close they were, as it was my first time ever playing a p90 anything.
Well, I liked the "big single coil" sound enough that I bought a guitar with actual p90s.
A Revstar rs502t.
The rebel 90s did not...
Steel pole/bar magnet strat pickups dont have to be cheap or dull, and can sound really good.
Case in point:
Harmonic design vintage plus vs fralin or others' steel poles.
HDs are ~5k boutique ceramics. They are very loud and have a fuller bottom and mids, but never sound overwound. They...
Check out the transition. Imagine a 36th and a super distortion had a child. Very much a loud beefy paf sound.
If that is too much, the transition neck is also a bridge pickup. Its a 10k ceramic with some speed to it. More low mids/lows than a 36th.
Dark matter 2 bridge. Split the...
The breed neck is only 25mv stronger than the paf pro.
The bridge is an old school overwound bridge pickup to match the neck.
The neck makes a great bridge pickup too
Lace hemibuckers. The bridge sounds like a fat nasty tele. That lace sensor compression and single coil clarity make for an interesting sound
Full shreds. The only neck pickup that chugs. The bridge, well, you know. Nothing else quite like it.
dark matter 2s. I love these things! Fat and...
Freefrog knows his stuff.
My only reservation with no load pots is they're only no load at ten. If you want tone control between no load and 250k, you are S.O.L.
Volume pot swaps are more tricky than tone pots.
The higher the value, the higher the resonant peak becomes. This makes...
250k is for singles and can muffle humbuckers, all other things being equal, compared to a 500k pot.
500k can cause singles to sound harsh. Just roll that down to 7 for ~250k
I like 300 to 350k for my fatter singles.
A tbx tone control can get you that default 250k for the singles, with the...
Wilkinson by gotoh. Go to the gotoh site
They have all the versions.
I'd go for the vs1300 with the locking saddles and strings.
That and the reintroduced wilky roller nut (loce these!) and locking tuners are going on my next build.
I am looking for max comfort and stability.
I havent...
I had a v1 back in the late 90s/early 2000s.
It was ok. I remember a whole Lotta blah. No bass, harsh treble, bland mids.
The new ones are decent sounding.
Did the build quality get any better?
Mine had tube socket connection issues and the plastic boards mounted jack that cut out unless...
A bit late to the thread.
I was thinking about this a bit. A spacer magnet on one side could be just the thing for those that need/want a single/split tone that is as loud as the humbucker.
Just split to the spacer mag side?
