    Apologies to Pearly Gates set

I have used a Pearly gates set in my Les Paul Standard for several years now. I recently got the bug for double cream and out of curiosity, I ordered the Dimarzio 36th Anniversary set in double cream. They looked spectacular in my wine red LP. The bridge was interesting tonally as it was a bit...

    Antiquity JB Trembucker

I just took delivery of a custom shop MJ wound Antiquity JB Trembucker. I am replacing a regular production JB trembucker. All I can say is that the video comparison of the 35th, Antiquity, and production JB is a realistic representation of the results you can expect. After installation, I...

Pearly Gates in Les Paul is my choice

I had a few off days over the holidays and it's the time I go through my gear and putter in the basement studio (it's cold here). After trying a '59, Gibson 57 Classic +, JB, and Pearly Gates in my 81 Les Paul STD. I found I prefer the Pearly Gates. I thought it a bit trebly but it's nice to...

59 Bridge, Pearly neck for Les Paul

I've decided on the '59 Bridge and Pearly Gates neck for my Les Paul Standard. I have tried the PG bridge and I think the '59 is a better fit for me. I think the A5 will be a nice change for me in the bridge.

Which Duncans are closest to EVO's?

I'm curious which Duncan pickups would get the closest to the Dimarzio EVO sound ina basswood strat with a floyd? Love the Vai sound but not a big fan of the Dimarzio brand. thanks. hey, are the double creme pickups a more glossy plastic like the duncan product? My only other thought fir this...

New build with Duncan '78 pickup

By the way, the Duncan Custom Shop '78 trembucker pickup is simply my all time favorite pickup I have tried for the "Frankenstratoblastdivebomber" kind of guitars. Here is my latest build. Warmoth body and neck, Schallers, an old early '80's Floyd and the '78.

More Bill Lawrence vs. Bill and Becky silliness

Man, rarely does anything chap my hide, but Geez, I had an extra L500L pickup that I put up on Ebay. Within 1 day I got 3 emails from someone named Ruth telling me how evil I was for using the name Bill Lawrence. IT's a USED pickup for Crissakes, get a life. AND SUPPORT BILL AND BECKY. YOUR...

'59 set vs. Gibson '57 set

I have this terrible obsession with swapping pickups. After alot of experimentation, I have a '59 set in my Les Paul Standard. I'm re-considering a '57 Classic Plus/'57 classic set. I'm finding the '59's just a bit gritty these days. Any direct comparisons out there to refresh my memory?

EMG 81 or Mustaine with a non-MV amp?

I'm curious how active humbucker pickups match up with a non-master volume amp such as a Super Lead or boutique. I heard these match up best with a master volume amp, but receontly my preference has been non-mv with a Hotplate. thanks

Is the EVH much different than the Screamin' Demon?

My pickup experiments continue to draw my curiousity to the Duncan EVH from the custom shop. I've tried several p/u's in the same instrument and so far I like the Screamin' Demon best and the Lawrence L500L 2nd. I'm wondering how the EVH compares tonally to the Demon if there are any users out...

Screamin' Demon vs the Lawrence L-500L

My favorite pickup in my single p/u Strat is the Screamin' Demon Trembucker. Today, I put in a Bill Lawrence L500L in there and so far so good. I have not spent enough time with it, but I think it has a little less bottom, more of a mid hump and harmonic content that is => than the incumbent...

Les Paul Neck P/U '59 or Jazz (PG in there now)

I have an '81 Les Paul Standard with a '59 Bridge and a Pearly Gates Neck. I like the PG but I am looking for just a tad more bottom and more of that Meniketti, Moore, Richrath singing tone in the upper register. Would a Jazz or the '59 be the logcal choice? Thank you

LP STD '59 Bridge/Pearly Neck = almost there

So very close to what I am looking for out of my Les Paul Standard. I need just a little more oomph out of the Bridge '59 and maybe just a pubie more low out of the Pearly Gates Neck. I've already tried the Pearly Bridge, Custom 5, Classic Plus. Nay suggestions from the Seymour line? How do...

Do you NEED a trembucker with a Floyd?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but for Strats with Floyd's does it REALLY matter if you use a trembucker or not?
