I want to change from 11-52 to 10-46 on my Floyd Rose equipped guitar. There are 5 springs there. Isn't that too many for lighter strings and should I remove a spring or two? Maybe I just need to set the springs accordingly?

How long is a Fender pot usable? Does its age affects the tone? And how to tell if it doesn't work right? I have a three years old Fender pots I don't use anymore, can I reuse them? I heard that cheaper pots don't work right after a few months.
