    Recommend a Combo

How's it going, everybody? I quit playing for a long time, and haven't posted here in nearly a year. I'd like to get back in the game, but I seriously need new gear. Most of all, I need an amp. I would like to get a moderately powered combo, because, ideally, I would be able to use it to...

    Bass pickups WITH thumbrests?

Some stock pups on basses have thumbrests already built in. It's a really great idea.... some Ibanez and Yamaha basses are as comfortable as hell. Fenders are also incredibly comfortable, but none of the stock pickups include this feature. Does Duncan, DiMarzio, EMG or any other pickup...

    Gibson bass question

What are the official differences between Rippers and Grabbers? I know one is made entirely out of maple and the other is made out of.... what?... I'm not even sure which one's which. Also, which one has the moveable pickups? Do they sound/feel different? What about scale length? And, yes...

Share your love for Ernie Ball MusicMan

I'm GASsing for a StingRay. Badly. They're amazingly solid, great sounding, smooth playing basses. Nothing against my Fenders (Fender will always be my favorite) but I need a little variety. I think I need to just force myself to start saving because I won't be able to get it out of my head...

    Gear most important to tone

Alright, I know your fingers, playing style and conviction determine your tone before anything. But proper gear helps things along, too. Do you think any one piece of gear is more essential to your ideal tone than others? In my opinion, it's the amp. Although everything is making a...

    Recommend Fat/Dbl. Fat Teles?

I love the dual humbucker sound, but the "solid mahogany" tone of Pauls and SGs has been done to death. I've had great results with Fat and Double Fat Strats.... how does the Tele stack up in the world of humbuckers? My favorite tone is thick, but not so overbearing that there is no definition...

How did you decide on your FIRST guitar?

Usually, your second and subsequent guitars are based on your experiences, advice and a more in-depth knowledge of guitars in general. When you bought your first guitar, however, what were you going on? A recommendation from a friend? Could you play well enough to test some out in the store...

B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

Everyone remembers the infamous "least favorite guitar poll" here on this forum.... B.C. Rich was absolutely trashed. It seemed like nobody had a good thing to say about them. Is there anyone here who actually likes B.C. Rich? And why? I can't help but notice the incredible number of metal...

"Extreme Metal" or "Vintage" - which is the cooler style?

It seems most guitar and bass enthusiasts lean either towards "vintage style" instruments or "metal style" instruments. Obviously, there are exceptions to any rule, but most of the time, it seems to be one or the other. So which do you prefer? Strats, Les Pauls, Jaguars, Ibanez Jet...

    Charvel San Dimas Standard Bass

Nice! This is exactly the kind of bass I was hoping Jackson would make. Check out the specs here. P style body with deep cutaways, 21 fret 34 inch, P/J config (with dual Basslines! Hots, no less). It's very much like a Fender with more metal stylings. Without being active or having a...

    Guitars made of ash?

I play Fenders made of alder and I've played Les Pauls made of mahogany, but it just occurred to me I've never had an ash guitar. How do they compare? Fender is making several of their popular instruments in ash varieties and Gibson has issued the Voodoo series, which is swamp ash. Any opinions?

    All-time LEAST favorite pickup

If you had to choose one pickup (or one pickup style) that you never liked, which would it be and why? I really dislike P-90s because I think they're a bit too squawky. They straddle the line between singles and hums.... they don't have the heft of a humbucker OR the character of a single...

    Most under-rated guitar company

It seems like a lot of guitar companies slip under the radar. What's your favorite guitar company that you think should recieve more praise? Keep in mind, this poll can ONLY have ten options. If your favorite isn't listed, just post your choice. Sorry for any omissions.

Guitar or bass with GREAT stock pups

A lot of the time, people buy a guitar or bass with the intent to swap out the stock pups for something more powerful or something that simply sounds better. Sometimes, however, you run into an instrument that has the sound you want right off the bat. I happen to love the way stock USA Fenders...

    Opinions on Fernandes

Has anyone here owned one? The Revelle looks pretty smooth and there are some amazing reviews for it. I love the fact that it's solid mahogany with a JB and Fernandes Sustainer STOCK. Any opinions?
