Is the Gibson "50's style" wiring the same as Parallel wiring?

I have been wondering for quite a while why Gibson doesn't put 24-Frets on all there SG models. I mean the Neck Pickup is already moved close enough to the bridge for 24-Frets, so is there any real reason for this?

Today was my birthday and I got an AXL SRO Pro and it was great until I tried plugging it in. It didn't make a sound when plug in at all and it doesn't seem to be a grounding issue. Does anyone no if this is common? Please Comment, Thanks.

I took the cover of one and what do I find? A cube of wax just overlapping the pickup in the shape of the cover.

I took the cover off the Angus young signature (TERRIBLE IDEA) and now the harsh high end on the Windsor is really come out. Is there any way other than cranking the bass (because it is already at 12!!) that might mellow out the treble? Maybe a power tube switch? Something around those lines.
