    SJAG-1 sounds abnormally thin

I just put a Vintage Jaguar in the neck position of my Charvel. It sounds EXTREMELY bright and thin, especially for a neck pickup, and I think something is wrong. The other two pickups (SSL5 and a Dimarzio Tone Zone) sound fine. Is the pickup just like this or did I do something wrong? It almost...

Charvel Model 6 truss rod nut

Does anybody know if the truss rod nut on this late-80's Charvel should be 1/4" or something metric? I'm about to order a special wrench because nothing I have will fit in the little tiny slot and it would be nice to get it right on the first try. Thanks

    Fender Lace Sensor "direct mount"

Anybody know how in the world I'm supposed to mount this thing? I emailed Fender and they said they had never heard of anything like it. They've been very helpful in the past, and I feel like if they knew anything they would have told me. They refered me to Lace Music, but their website is...

    Lacquer accident

A guitar I was spraying with nitro lacquer slipped from where it was drying and ended up face-down on a towel (not the soft cotton kind, but like a bath towel). By the time I found it, the lacquer was mostly dry. When I picked it up, the lacquer at the edge of the guitar lifted off and I have a...

    Learning to do fretwork

I have a Charvel Model 6 that needs a total refret as well as a Warmoth neck that needs dressing. Rather than paying upwards of $400 to get that done, I figure I should go ahead and learn to do it myself. I've read everything I can find on the internet about fretwork and plan on buying Stewmac's...

    What's the going rate for...

I'm bringing in my Warmoth today. I need several things done: 1) File the nut slots to a 10" radius and widen a couple just a bit. The Warmoth cut nut is pretty attrocious. Plus, the slots are flat and the neck is a 10-16" radius. 2) File the bridge saddle slots to an 18.5" radius. The current...

    Of pots and caps

I'm working on getting my Warmoth all wired up. It's playable right now, but not all the knobs are satisfactory. Just a couple questions... 1) The tone knobs right now are more or less on/off switches - there's no inbetween or graduation. Is that the fault of the pot itself or the cap? I'd be...

    My Warmoth is finished! (pictures)

I know how much you guys love pictures of pretty guitars, so here's my brand new Warmoth...finished rather unproffessionally by me. The lacquer job isn't perfect, but I'm confident that with proper equipment I could do a much better job. I'm happy as it is. Alnico II Pro in...

hmm...two single coils in a humbucker route?

I've started designing my next project. I know I want a strat, but I can't decide if I want a blues machine or an 80's metal monster. Then I had an idea...could I fit two single coils in a pickguard humbucker route? Obviously I'd have to turn one backwards, but wouldn't it work? If so, I could...

    Splintered Headstock Repair

So, how exactly would I go about fixing this? Strip the finish and try to glue down the chips? I'm pretty much at a loss. The only thing I can think of right now would be a veneer right over it, but I doubt I can find a piece of rosewood that will match the rest of the neck.

    Anyone have Blues Jr clips?

Seems like every time I go to the store, there's someone camped in front of the Blues Jr and I can never get to it. Anyone have any clips of it?

    Celestion - Chinese or British?

How can I tell if the Vintage 30 in my amp is Chinese or British? I looked at the back of it and I don't see anything that would indicate where it's made. Ideas?

Could use a little painting help

I'm currently in the middle of refinishing my Warmoth. I dyed the top a sort of blue-green burst and I'm on to the sanding sealer step. Being the idiot that I am, I managed to sand through the sanding sealer while level sanding, and I now have a band around the edge of the top that needs to be...

    Repositioning neck screw holes

As part of the face lift I'm giving my Warmoth, I was going to sink the screws. I bought some nice 5/8" washers from stewmac and a 5/8" drill bit thinking I'd just sink the washers right in (the washers are thick enough to hide the screw head). Everything just arrived, and it turns out I don't...
