It deals with the highs and lows. vintage- clips harder at a lower volumn and its not as bright nor basey and its a little smoother. bright-is bright like a regular vintage 30 speaker tone with all the extra highs and lows. If I want to play at a lower volumn and get that great clip I switch to vintage mode or if I want a little more jazzy tone I will do the same. Bright is all out bright with all the highs and lows. if your amp is buzzy the "bright setting will only expose it more but if your amp has great gain and clip or shimmering cleans it will sound awsome on "bright mode" -hope this helps
