DigiTech Solo XT Looper Pedal Introduces Hiss Into the Audio Signal

Thought I was imagining this at first, but no. Guitar straight into the Solo XT pedal then out of pedal into front panel of amp (a Boss Katana, which is solid state and a very quiet amp). Power supply for the Solo XT is the included wall transformer plugged straight into the wall. With guitar...

Can AC Power- On Light Indicaters Cause Noise In Audio ?

I'm building a pedal board that has a strip in the inside back to accept transformers rather than spending $ for isolated power supply. I wanted to build a switch into it that illuminates (either LED or Neon switch light) to indicate the board is plugged in. Somewhere I remember reading (I think...

Mini Toggle Switches and Copper Lined Pickguard: Possible source of short?

I've got a super-shielded strat with a copper tape lined pickguard underside and cavity. There are mini toggle switches that come up through the pickguard. When I press in on the top of the pickguard I notice sometimes the sound cuts out. I thought maybe the wiring or the switch housing was...

New Bolt-on Replacement Neck Made Strat Sound Brighter?

Re: New Bolt-on Replacement Neck Made Strat Sound Brighter? You mean three semitones will be heard as one sounding brighter than the other in the finished neck once installed? Then maybe a major difference between the two necks I have in which the new one is making the instrument sound...

New Bolt-on Replacement Neck Made Strat Sound Brighter?

Re: New Bolt-on Replacement Neck Made Strat Sound Brighter? A full view of the front of the new neck. You can see the difference in the thickness of the two necks (new neck is on the right). Other pic shows the back of the two necks and difference in grain (new neck is on the right)...

New Bolt-on Replacement Neck Made Strat Sound Brighter?

I replaced the old neck I had on a Squire strat. The change in tone was so obvious I had to alter the volume pot from a little over 500K to 300K to get about the same tone, and it's still a little brighter. Both necks are maple with rosewood fingerboard. Both fingerboards are unfinished except...

    Right-handed vs. Left-handed tuners on a strat?

Re: Right-handed vs. Left-handed tuners on a strat? Thanks for the replies, but I'm a little lost. What is there to not fit? You can see from the back of the original neck below, the major difference is that the gear portion of the housing is facing up on the new neck and was facing down...

    Right-handed vs. Left-handed tuners on a strat?

The individual machine heads or "tuners" used on one side of the headstock for a strat or tele come in left or right handed versions. I have an old squire stagemaster strat (from 2000) that came stock with a lefty neck installed onto a right-handed guitar. The tuners are at the bottom of the...

4-wire Duncan and 2-wire Ibanez humbuckers incompatible with each other. Fix?

Modified an Ibanez Artcore AF75T hollow body. Pickups: I removed the neck pickup and replaced it with a Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pro. The SD is a 4-wire pickup. I used a push-pull pot to do a series/parralel split. I left the original Ibanez 2-wire bridge pickup in place. Problems: Each pickup...

One 100 watt amp vs. two 50 watt amps. Which sounds louder?

Which amp configuration is louder: One 100 watt amp combo with a single 1 x12 Two 50 watt combos each with a 1 x 12 Assuming the 2 - 50 watt amps are run in stereo with a splitter, and assuming all amps 50 and 100 watt type are something like solid state amps running clean made by the same...

Will GTR Electronics Make More Noise When OUTSIDE the Instrument?

Okay, strange question, but pertains to making repairs. I'm not talking about a guitar that has a shielded cavity for electronics, which I know can make a difference. I have a hollowbody, and I just changed the wiring. I used shielded wiring as per the original layout. Pots are new but same...

New 500K Bournes pots measure 400k. Will they be audibly darker?

I needed two 500K pots for Volume replacement. These Bournes pots are supposed to be + or - 15%, which means no less than 425K. However, the two I was sent: one measures 408K and the other measures 416K. So, they're not really to spec. Will these sound noticeably different compared to 500K?

Is it typical to wait > 5 weeks for an amplifier repair?

I sent my amp to a well-known amp manufacturer - won't mention name yet - for a repair. That was 5 weeks ago. There's only 1 person that I can contact, a sales rep. He actually encouraged me to send it to them saying that given they manufacturer the amp the repair would be simple. I inquired...

A background crackling sound coming from my tube amp?

Amp is a Rivera Pubster 25. It's been fine for many years, until now. The noise is an intermittent crackling sound, not very loud, but you can hear it. It gets louder as you turn up the volume. Stops when master volume is all the way down. It sounds a bit like when a cable has a short in it. It...

Proper way to install round core strings with a Floyd Rose bridge?

Round core, nickel wound strings (as opposed to the more common hex core) are supposed to be crimped or bent at the tuning post and then brought up to tension before you cut them. When you don't do this, some say the string goes dead. Others say it will cause intonation problems. Plus, the outer...
