As it´s a hardtail are you planning on seeing if you can enlarge the route to get the pickup any closer?

I'd recommend getting a full-size humbucker for the bridge. A single sized pup will be a decent approximation...but for my money, not close enough. If you really want that fat, put a humbucker in the bridge...as for which one I'll leave that to others, although I don't think the JB mentioned...

Without getting into specific pickups, if there is a vintage / slightly hotter than vintage set that has a hotter bridge that you like...and if you can get a standard and a rwrp version of the bridge you could use them for the neck and middle.

I have no experience with bb3s. I suggested the seths as I have a set in a Hamer Monaco Elite (LP style guitar) and I love them in there including for the styles mentioned. I've never had issues getting through the mix, I imagine because it has a decent amount of mids...in fact I was asked...

I'd suggest a Seth Lover rather than a JB. Alternatively a PG would probably also work for what you're after.

I imagine this is a simple yes/no question - although I imagine opinions will vary of course. On bass do you roll your fingers to play at the same fret on two adjacent strings like on guitar? Say you´re playing an E on the 12th fret of the high E and the next note is B on the 12th of the B...

The stock humbucker in the bridge of my Hohner (hss strat copy) - which I didn't like the sound of anyway, started failing intermittently and I wasn't able to get it working. So I replaced it and the wiring and put a PG in the bridge. That was 2008.
