    Thoughts on the Gibson 496r/500t

Got a NGD with this pickup set. At first I thought they were a little dark. So I checked the control cavity and saw that it had 500k pots.. so no problem there. But then I realised it has Graph Tech saddles... tone killers! I'll be putting the original zinc-coated brass saddles back on the ABR...

    Thoughts on the Gibson 496r/500t

That was probably me because I'd been planning this for a year in a clownburst 95 Classic Plus that came with a shorted 496R in the case. Currently has a Dawgtown alnico II 58 which sounds fantastic with 500k pots. But I like the idea of restoring the 496R with the current mag used by...

Bucker splitting.. neck to screw, bridge to slug

So If I have this diagram, which I believe splits to slug coils How do I switch the neck split to the screw coil? And with both pups split that'll be hum-cancelling in the middle position, with no out-of-phase issues? Edit: to clarify this is a different guitar than the one where I just have...

300k for Gibson, 500k for Duncan

Is that what works best for volume pots, on average? Every Gibson electric I have was made between 1995 and 2007 and have the 300k linear volume pots (and 500k audio tone pots). No complaints from me, and I like the volume taper. Every time I've put in Duncans I've gone with 500k pots and it's...

    HSS with 1 tone

In another HSS setup I had a normally-split duncan bucker (to the slug coil) with a neck single be hum-cancelling, but I had to switch the leads I'd normally use for the single coils. The middle was rw/rp and I got hum-cancelling in positions 1, 3, and 4. That agrees with what you said. So if I...

    HSS with 1 tone

I like this wiring diagram but I don't want the bridge humbucker to see a tone pot. I want only the neck/middle single coils to see the 250k tone pot. Can I do this without a super-switch?

    PRS with Tune-o-Matic

So which models have the TOM style bridge/tailpiece? I'm familiar with the stripped 58 and McCarty having it.. any others?

Best fix for faulty speaker jack?

The 8ohm jack of my mesa 4x12 isn't working. Luckily I had it in parallel with another 8ohm cab when I noticed it playing through my tube amp. The 4x12 also has two 4ohm jacks, which both worked with the same cable so it's not the speakers or cable. First step would be to try contact cleaner?

    HSS phase issue

I wired this up with a Duncan custom 5 trembucker and two strat-copy single coils. I figured since the middle pickup is RWRP they would be like a modern Fender strat pickup set like the diagram intends. But positions 2 and 3 definitely sound out of phase. How do I correct this? Can I choose...

Need some help with my in-betweens...

Re: Need some help with my in-betweens... If you care to do that thru your 5-way switch here's a diagram. Switch the red and black wires for the humbucker since the diagram is duncan and your bucker is dimarzio.

    HSS and non-RWRP middle pup

Can bridge+middle be hum-cancelling even if the middle pickup is not RWRP. I'm working with a Dimarzio (single size) rail humbucker and this diagram: If it can't be done (without opening up a pickup and modifying it) then how do I wire this up so that it splits to the rail closest to the...

HSS w/ coil split wiring help

Re: HSS w/ coil split wiring help Is a superswitch necessary in order to get the bridge (coil split) plus neck pickups in parallel for the 3rd position? I'm using this diagram and would like to try that using the current 5-way.. possible?
