  • it sounds like you wired them wrong, it will still make noise but it will hum. honestly i cant remember but i think you have that wired correctly. an easy way to check is wire the pup straight to the output jack. if it hums, its the pup. if it doesnt then its something else
they would still have the black and white wires attched to the coil wires and they would be soldered together for the series link. there wouldnt be any red/white wires since thats part of the 4 cond harness. unsolder the black/white wires from the red/white and connect them. you can save the 4 cond harness for later use
i did that from memory so its possible i forgot something. if you run into any issues let me know. the biggest thing is to be careful and move slowly so you dont break the tiny copper coil wire. its no thicker than a strand of hair

its also obviously broken up weird. there is a 1000 character limit apparently
when you find them. you want to solder the black and white wires attached to the red and white wires together and cover them so they wont ground out. this is your series link.

duncan usually uses paper tape i think but i use small shrink wrap. you want to keep all the connections small and clean so you can put the pup back together easily.

then attach the black wire to the center conductor of the new wire and the green wire to the braided shield. cover the connections up and re-wrap any tape that you had to remove so the only thing left to do is put the bottom plate back on. now you want to run the cable where it was before and solder the braided cable to the bottom plate. just a little dab so the plate is grounded. put the pup back together and you are all set.
ok. just understand that you could kill your pup if you make a mistake. you have to play with the short wires attached to the ends of the coil. if you break the coil and cant fix it, the pup is dead.

remove the pup from the guitar. un-screw the four little screws on the bottom plate to free up the coils. notice where the spacer, magnet, and the wire are since youll want to put them back where there are now. you may have to deal with wax, if the pup isnt coming apart gently give it some pressure till the coils come off the bottom plate. once the bobbins are free of the plate you may have to carefully un-wrap some tape to find the four white/black wires (these are attached to the coil wires so be carefuly) and where they attach to the black/green/red/white/bare wires.

ran out of room. to be cont...
They are Seymour Duncan of course lol. All my guitars have Duncans in them. I wouldnt use any thing else!
As for cheating I would sooner do it properly.
Im just a bit anal like that. I just think if im gonna do it I might as well do the job properly.
Im not scarred or worried about doing this as I always fiddle with all sort of guitar stuff but I only fiddle if I have clear instructions of what I need to do as I obviuosly dont want to muck things up and that is were I hope you can step in and help me.
specifically what brand pup do you have? not all companys use the same color wires.

how do you feel about cheating just a touch?
