    JBJ vs JB

Recorded a quick clip of my JB equipped guitars. I like the palm-mutes on the Ant better, but I kinda like the roar the chords have in the Plain Jane JB.

What guitar are you playing today?

I used to have a set of BW's in the LTD in my avatar. Man, I really miss having an LTD. The Thin U neck profile is killer.

What Humbucker and single-coils for me?

Yeah, I get ya. Ordering a BKP off the UK here costs about as much as ordering a Custom Shop Duncan.

What Humbucker and single-coils for me?

To me, it is brighter and more attacky. So yes, I suppose. But it's also not as focused in the high mids as the JB, so maybe that's what's coming across as harsh to you from the JB. Personally, I don't find either harsh, but I do prefer the JB. If anything, I find the JB the smoother of the two...

What Humbucker and single-coils for me?

The Custom 5 is brighter than the JB. I don't find the JB to have a lot of high-end, personally, but if you still find it problematic, what I would suggest is maybe using 250K pots to smooth it out a little. Or change the magnet to A2 if you already have the JB. Or maybe look into the RTM if...

    What a killer guitar.

    Pots for HSS?

Depends on what kind of wiring you intend to have. Do you have a master volume and a master tone and that's it? Or two tones? Or two volumes? I have a friend who just rewired his HSS Strat with all 250K pots, but a no-load tone for the bridge, so in the end, the bridge pickup sees the same...

    JBJ vs JB

I agree. I don't think the JB is all that bright to begin with. I mentioned a few posts ago that once you start comparing it to most of the rest of the Duncan humbucker lineup, the highs are actually pretty rolled off by comparison. So the fact that the polished magnet and whatever other...

    JBJ vs JB

Sorry to beat on a dead horse, but I was playing my Les Pauls back to back today. One with the standard JB, one with the CS Antiquity JB, and there's not much to it. Yes, I like the CS JB better, but not in a way that I know it's rational. If you think the standard JB is worse because it's...

    JBJ vs JB

On a related note, I've never found the contemporary JBs' treble to be problematic, personally. My hot take, I suppose, is that if anything, the treble is pretty rolled off if you start comparing to the Custom, Custom 5, Distortion, Nazgul, Dimebucker, '59B, WLH, PG, etc., and like 80-90% of the...

    JBJ vs JB

I don't have a JBJ, but I do have the next best thing, I suppose. An Antiquity. My experience with the Ant vs the standard JB is exactly the same as the first video and the video I posted. That being said, I like the regular production JB just fine. Especially in a Les Paul tuned low...

Anybody tried an Alnico 4 JB?

Yeah, I think the Eclair is like 15K too, right?

    NGD, pawn shop find.

I think they call it Gibraltar III. It's the same bridge that was on an old SZ of mine. It was very comfy.

    NGD, pawn shop find.

Depends on the bridge the on the LP. Standard current-day Gibsons with stock hardware, yeah. Those are narrower. Vintage too. Late Norlins and early 90's I'm not sure, because many of those use Schaller bridges. But many (and I'd even say most) aftermarket replacement Tune-O's are...

HB that sounds Tele when split?

How about a P-Rails Neck in the bridge? Probably not dead-on Tele, but beefier than a split hum. Otherwise, I think your best bet is a medium hot-ish humbucker. I wouldn't go for a PAF or a vintage output wind, because those split are tinny and un-Tele-like, IMO.
