    Active pickups for baritone guitar

I have a standard Blackouts set in my warmoth and they sound killer! I play in standard tuning only, so dont have experience with them for drop tuning, but they sound spectacular for my use.

Anyone tried a Wilkinson VS100CV (Convertible) trem?

Anyone tried one of these? It's like a standard vs100 but it has a mechanism that locks the trem when you let go of the bar, looks cool! They stopped selling these for some time due to a patent issue, but you can get them now.

How did you choose your guitar?

My current #1 is pictured. It started with me owning a standard strat. I liked the shape and feel of the body but that was pretty much it… didn’t like the single coils, the 6-screw trem, the small frets, etc. I liked the humbuckers and the mahogany body of Les pauls, but not the shape. I...

    NGD: Warmoth Strat build!

Spent a loooooong time on this. Built up the parts for a couple of years as and when I had time/money. Had some trouble with USACG over the body (see previous thread), went with Warmoth. Here's the specs: Neck: Wenge with Macassar Ebony fretboard. Unfinished. 10-16" compound radius...

Do you think this would get me close to an SG or Les Paul sound?

I love the sound of SG's and Les Pauls, but I love the body shape of a Strat. So I was thinking of building a compromise. - Mahogany strat body (Warmoth) - Tune-o-matic bridge with stop-tail piece (Warmoth rout for this) - 24 3/4" gibson scale length neck, mahogany with a bound ebony fretboard...

New practice amp day! (Yamaha THR10)

Just bought a Yamaha THR10. So for years my practice rig has been a Line6 X3Live through some studio monitors. Old tech now, but I got a decent range of tones for practice and I had all the effects, footswitches, wahs, etc that I could ever need. I was considering upgrading to a higher...

Played a 2017 Gibson Les Paul Traditional HP.

My friend just bought one of these for a good price as the 2018 line is coming in. It's the one with the robot tuners, push/pull everything and sculpted heel. I liked it a lot! The quality is definitely there. The fret work and factory set up were better than most I have seen. The flame top...

What is the easiest way to transcribe guitar music?

In the past, when I've wanted to notate my compositions, I've used a midi-equipped guitar and Sibelius software. I want to transcribe my music again, and don't have the skill to just write it down, so I need a system where I can play what I've wrote and it gets transcribed. However, I would...

    Don't buy from USACG.

Here's how I lost $98 and a load of my time to them. The beginning of May 2017 I ordered a strat body, one piece mahogany, with a Kahler bridge rout. I got it beginning of august and realized from doing some measurements that bridge rout was in the wrong place. So I e-mailed them, and after...

Which pickups have been used by the most diverse range of recording artists?

^ I was thinking about the EMG 85. On the lighter side of things, it was used by Larry Carlton and Mark Knophler. Then you've got Steve Lukather and Reb Beach, all the way up to the metal guys like Kirk Hammett. Then there's the JB. Used by Jeff Beck and Seymour himself, but also used for a...

Re: Who's working on a build right now? Let's see your stuff! Been putting together this recently; Here are the specs; Body: From USACG*, one-piece mahogany... gonna finish it with tru-oil, contoured heel, single battery box Neck: From Warmoth, wenge with macassar ebony fretboard...

    On-board multi-FX done "right"?

Re: On-board multi-FX done "right"? No, that's the Moog E1 guitar. It's got two weird pickups that can either sustain or mute the strings. Then it's got Moog filters. Some versions even had Midi/Piezos too. Crazy guitar.

Why are traditional guitar designs so popular?

Why do you think that the most popular guitar designs are around 60-70 years old? I think it's clear we can build a better guitar. We can do this in a number of ways; - Use new materials to produce bodies and necks that are lighter in weight and stronger - Better heel ergonomics for better...
