NGD - you may not like this...

Nylon strung solidbody - traded my CS336 for it.

    A pedalboard is born...

Knowing guitarists' love of photostories, I thought I should do one for the assembly of my pedalboard. Enjoy etc. The ingredients - a PedalTrain Pro, a box of pedals, a reel of DC cable (plus some offcuts of Sommer Spirit), a few power supplies and a lot of cable ties. First job is bunging on...

    Imminent new amp day!

It's not a clone, but is voiced to sound rather like a Matchless Lightning.

    FTL Drive MK2

Mine's arrived. Only had a quick go so far, but it seems jolly good indeed. :)

New guitar: I haz it (CS-336 content)

It's lovely. Terrible finish - solid black over flame maple so it's sunk into the flame leaving a weird ripple - I'm almost certainly getting it refinished early next year in a dark trans black. The original owner exchanged the 57 Classics for some Bareknuckle P90s which will be staying, and...

    Mmm. Blue.

    2 humbuckers, Superswitch

I have a Jazz and a Custom 5 for my G&L Legacy. I was thinking: 1) Neck (series) 2) Neck (parallel) 3) Outer coils (parallel) 4) Erm... 5) Bridge (series) Any ideas for what to do with position 4? I was thinking maybe outer coils in series but out of phase. Or 3 could be neck series in...

    I made me a quitar

6 days in Wales with a chap who builds jolly nice guitars indeed. This is my second build, and I am rather pleased with it. It's in bits now for wiring (which I'm doing) and painting (which he is). 27-inch scale, alder body, maple neck with cocobolo fretboard, MOP inlays. Pair of Bulldog...

    A switching sanity check

Hallo! I was wondering if anyone would be willing to cast an eye over a switching setup for me. It's using a DiMarzio EP1111 (or equivalent) with two humbuckers to do: 1) Bridge (series) 2) Neck (parallel) 3) Neck (series) The EP1111 switches like this: The bridge humbucker will have its...

I have the wrong switches. I think.

Hallo - not been here in a while. I trust you are all well. :) I am about to go off on a guitar-building course and have been sifting through my various switches. I would like to do the old series/parallel/split thingy with some 3-way slide switches (they look like Jag/JM ones) but I think the...

Pickup suggestions for a Parker Nitefly M?

Hallo! I have, as the title suggests, a Parker Nitefly M. It plays beautifully and is jolly comfy. However, I have now tried three sets of pickups in it and can't get what I'd like out of it. First up were the stock pickups. Then a set of Q-Tuners. Currently it has a Humbucker From Hell and a...

How/why do magnets make a difference?

Hallo. I know little about magnets (other than that steel sticks to them). As such, while I'm happy that different magnets do result in a different sound (all other factors being equal), I have no idea why. Could someone give me a basic explanation for how different magnet materials result in a...

Oooh, yes. New pedal on the way.

    Yum.

    2x10? Pah! 4x12? Pshaw! I made me a speaker.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the future of guitar speakers. The 25 x 1.4". A close-up. Ignore the dodgy woodworking. Currently running from my Laney LC15R, but that's to change. Just got the last parts to assemble this beauty - 2x25W class T. Oh yes. Hand-wound toroids. I'm...

    I stuck a P-Rail in my ASAT.

And lo, it is good. In the neck position, replacing the stock humbucker (which, it turns out, is a Seth Lover). I used a pair of push/pulls to get the four sounds out of the P-Rails, and the rail is towards the bridge. Series is a big, fairly hot, very "full" humbucking sound. Not BREWTAL GAIN...
