Whats the site where you would look up a model number for a Squier?

I'm new to guitar.. I have a Squier Strat and I was thinking about putting hot rails along with laces.. That being said, does it matter where you put it? My friends tell me to put the best pickup on the bridge position. why? and finally, What combination should I go for? I play mostly blues...
