of those you listed, i've used the 78, Pearly gates, Custom 5, and Whole lotta humbucker. C5 will have the most power in the low end imo. I think all will do metal fairly well with your set up, and i found the 78/PG/WLH to have a pretty similar feel/dna, but i would actually go with the pearly...

Guitar Madness sells $20 humbuckers on ebay that are incredible bang for the buck. The 57 Special and 1984 are 2 stand outs for me.

that's a crazy take. slash's rhythm tracks are rarely buried in the mix and his tone is pretty distinct.

yeah ed roman was the king of slimy snake oil. i highly doubt the black backs were anything more than a black backplate on a standard model, custom custom being the one often named.

yeah they aren't making those right now unfortunately, but i am following the seller so hopefully they re up at some point. Those Donlis ones are interesting though...they are for humbucker sized p90 but i wonder if they could do them for a traditional shape as well...

I know Rio Grande and Proto used to offer them but they are not currently. I've looked everywhere. Anyone have any leads on these or something similar?

if this is based off that with an A5, it's essentially a Jazz. And while i am getting tired of every new release being Slash/Billy Gibbons/Joe Bonamassa flavor of the month...a 10k-ish Jazz bridge sounds pretty cool

i can't speak to the pickups you mention, but i have a jazz bridge in the neck of a les paul and it is awesome. i could see a 78 working well.

i've found buying used dimarzios is an easy way around supporting the company while getting a sweet double cream super distortion in a les paul. of course i don't have a problem with them in the first place. the AT-1 and Super 3 are awesome humbuckers and the Twang King neck is amazing.

i was going to say the tony iommi model that became the el diablo, but that was a blade pickup. were there 2 iommi models? it gets confusing.

These 2 seem pretty similar, as far as I know both are hotter takes on a Pearly Gates, same magnet, similar DCR. Curious to any major differences between the two.
