Did you check the ohms of the original volume pot after you removed it? If it measured 350k, it might explain the benefit of this upgrade.

Cool rails has a humbucker tone. I use it with 500k controls and sounds clear, but nothing like a strat pickup IMO. Maybe you would be better off with a stacked noiseless single coil. I used Dimarzio HS-2 and Area 58. Both of them are a bit soft, compressed, and don’t give the most classic...

Normally I would put 500k master volume, 500k Master tone. I would typically use the opposite side of the blade switch to wire fixed load resistors so the single coil sees a lower resistance, and sometimes wire auto-split for pos 2 Bridge/middle. However the wiring depends on the pickups...

Some reviews and demos make it seem like the DSV neck is bright and clear. It’s hard to know how that translates to a LP guitar in a metal context.

I think you like warm / dark neck pickups that have strong mids. I found the Suhr SSV was a bit bassy and scooped. From what I read online, the DSV neck has much more mid focus due to double screw poles. I’m curious about this myself, but haven’t tried it.

Might have been better to leave the 1/2” hex screws in the coil towards the neck. Too much eddy current loss and overall weaker magnetic field from the filisters and A2 magnet won’t be good for coil split tones.

The mids are a little mild and it is a balanced sounding pickup IMO. The APH-1n can work well played through a Marshall with the gain up. Is it possible to adjust the height closer to the strings?

I expect this guitar has the APH-1 with hex screw poles in the neck. Full shred with A2 magnet seems like a match, at least on paper.🙂

Do you like Dimarzio pickups like AT-1 or Tone Zone? How about Suhr SSH+, if you have played one? I’m wondering where the 100% success marker will be.

I’m not sure why fillisters increase inductance. It may have more to do with the 3/4” length rather than a difference in magnetic properties. I don’t see how longer pole pieces can increase output when they extend beyond the baseplate.

Try the A2 mag. Then you will discover if you are getting towards the 50 to 90% range. If not it’s just a lesson learned.

I don’t believe humidity will affect resistance measurement. I would say it’s “untrue”.
