    Middle Humbucker for an HHH

The split tones will be useful IMO. This may be what orpheo was suggesting. Personally I would coil-split to use the 59 screw coil in position 2, bridge + middle. It will quack like a strat if you split the bridge humbucker as well and also be hum-cancelling.

    Middle Humbucker for an HHH

I would choose a brighter pickup for the middle. Eg, SH-1 '59 bridge, Suhr SSV neck, or maybe a SH-1 '59 neck. nevermind.. I saw u already orderd a SH-16 59/custom.

    Help me understand EMG pickups

If you zoom in on the PCB panel that Rob Turner is holding in the video, you can see where the PCB has white printing to identify the different coil positions used on EMG 60, 81, 85 models. Rob explains at 6:08 in the video, that plastic spacers are colour coded to identify each of the...

    Help me understand EMG pickups

There is a EMG factory tour video on Youtube. At 5:31 it shows that 85, 60, 60A each have a plastic spacer placed flat on the circuit board instead of a magnet. It seems these types have magnets inside the pickup bobbins, so there are NO ferrous components in the design at all. This is...

    Help me understand EMG pickups

“Acoustically dull” wasn’t my comment, but you have taken the meaning in a very literal sense. Anyway, I mostly agree with what you wrote about the Acoustic aspect, although not everybody has the same understanding. I see it as a loss of vibration energy at certain frequencies and not at...

    Help me understand EMG pickups

I feel the EMG 60 is a bit brighter and more dynamic. IMO it can be a better neck pickup. I read that it has a narrower sensing area so the geometry is more like mini humbucker or a single sized rails pickup. It’s a popular combination with 81 in the bridge.

Hi-fi yet soft Strat neck pickup - Vintage Rails?

I think its great that you have particular ideas about what you want, so I commend you for that. Maybe you will get closer with an A2 strat pickup, but I’m interested to know how it will work out the hum-cancelling. With the mini-humbuckers, I haven’t tried the Duncan antiquity, but the 3...

Hi-fi yet soft Strat neck pickup - Vintage Rails?

I have a suggestion for your Strat. Route it out so you can put some mini-humbuckers in neck and middle. They could have the combination of soft pick response, moderate brightness, broad EQ, and hum-cancelling that you are looking for. Ideally put: Neck: A2 mini humbucker( n) Middle: A2 or...

    Custom Pairing

Did you check the ohms of the original volume pot after you removed it? If it measured 350k, it might explain the benefit of this upgrade.

Hi-fi yet soft Strat neck pickup - Vintage Rails?

Cool rails has a humbucker tone. I use it with 500k controls and sounds clear, but nothing like a strat pickup IMO. Maybe you would be better off with a stacked noiseless single coil. I used Dimarzio HS-2 and Area 58. Both of them are a bit soft, compressed, and don’t give the most classic...

Full Shred Pole Piece & Magnet Swap

Thanks for the demo. From listening to your sample, it sounded like it was mostly successful. I liked the A2 version personally.

    Wiring discussion

Normally I would put 500k master volume, 500k Master tone. I would typically use the opposite side of the blade switch to wire fixed load resistors so the single coil sees a lower resistance, and sometimes wire auto-split for pos 2 Bridge/middle. However the wiring depends on the pickups...

Help me choose a neck pickup for my LP Modern Lite

Some reviews and demos make it seem like the DSV neck is bright and clear. It’s hard to know how that translates to a LP guitar in a metal context.

Help me choose a neck pickup for my LP Modern Lite

I think you like warm / dark neck pickups that have strong mids. I found the Suhr SSV was a bit bassy and scooped. From what I read online, the DSV neck has much more mid focus due to double screw poles. I’m curious about this myself, but haven’t tried it.

Full Shred Pole Piece & Magnet Swap

Might have been better to leave the 1/2” hex screws in the coil towards the neck. Too much eddy current loss and overall weaker magnetic field from the filisters and A2 magnet won’t be good for coil split tones.
